Weed Review: Maui-Wowee Crossed With Trainwreck

maui-wowee trainwreck

A few days ago LAist bought an 8th out of some surfer guy's living room for $60. He told us it was a cross between Hawaii's Maui-wowee and Northern Cali's Trainwreck, and that it was grown outdoors so it would have that sun-kissed, natural feel as opposed to the sometimes chemy feel of something grown indoors or with hydroponics.

Pre-Smoke Examination:
The large sphere-like nugs are fluffy, loose, and airy. They smell a little like hay, but when you break them open you can definitely notice the traditional Trainwreck scent. The nugs are well trimmed, with only a tiny bit of extra leaf. And they were well dried, but perhaps have been sitting around for a few weeks, because they are starting to be on the cusp of "too dry".

Post-Smoke Examination:
The nugs break apart easily, and can be easily grinded. Again you can tell they're not too dry, because they break apart well, but do not turn to piles of dust. This weed burns fast in the bowl, and creates thick milky hits. The kind that leave resin on your lips. The taste is fairly average: while it isn't bad or gross, it doesn't taste especially great either.

I'm baked off my ass with this weed after the second bowl. It might be because there is some-what of a creeper effect. You're more stoned 20 minutes after your first bowl then you are 20 seconds after the first bowl. And the high lasted me a good 2 hours. We would buy this weed again because it's very stoney, and $60/8th is a sorta decent price.

what in the hell?

is this still an LA blog?

this just in, anonymous negative commentor: not only is there marijuana in Los Angeles,

but there are over 100 places where people can get it legally,

and hundreds of thousands of places in LA where you can get it in other ways.

all those years we didnt review the bud that is grown and sold in LA were the years you should have complained, not now.

LA and top shelf herb are indeed wonderfully synonymous.

wow.

I haven't smoked since 1993, so while not helpful to me, this is the best addition ever. And why? Because I know enough to know that this is an industry and personal recreational past time that hundreds of thousands of people in SoCal partake in and which also crosses social and economical borders.

No one would say all red wine is the same.

"there are over 100 places where people can get it legally"

Or at least "legally". The Feds are really screwing the pooch on this one.

Haha, had to laugh at this one, a "nug" review? Awesome. If only I still smoked, thankfully I'm not behind on my jargon. One thing I would be behind if I smoked this would be behind my nightstand curled up into a fetal position, that shit fucks me up.

I really like the descriptive adjectives for the "tasting", perhaps some snobbish terms like, "Light, skunky nose with an undercurrent of thyme and unwashed genitals. Smooth finish..." would help carry it a bit.

Can't wait for the next review...!

man, every time i hear about weed in the US I can't help but smirk.

$30 for an 8th in Toronto, Canada is average, if not a but pricey.

I'm all for freedom of expression but I do think this is a really bad idea. Sorry guys, but this plus the Golden Girls "Art" peepshow equals going a little too far.

I think the Golden Girls art show was fantastic

if you truly are "all for freedom of expression", where do you think people should talk about interesting art exhibits taking place in LA, or a huge part of LA culture, than in

a blog

about LA?

you're not seriously suggesting that the Internet is too good for discussions about mother nature and fine art are you?

"mother nature" ... lol

Why are you people losing you're shit over this. It's just fucking weed. People smoke, so what.

God.

Im not a smoker but if there is anywhere for marijuana to be talked about openly, it should be LAist. I like to think cool open minded people read LAist for a smile and a good bite to eat, and for world news, go to BBCnews.com Well at least I do, and im pretty cool

Torch

this is why i love LAist. y'all cover everything and with panache. i fancy myself a bit of a stoner [better-than-gainfully employed and fully functional] and your weed review is much appreciated.

when will the people on here realize that they have the ability to bypass stuff that they are not interested in? i skipped right over the Golden Girls art piece cuz i KNEW it wasn't for me. it's easy. try it next time any of you that have a problem with this piece see "Weed Review" in the headline. REALLY.

now i gotta hit the bong and get ready for work.

yo canada, we send our shitty weed there.
that's why it's only 30 bux...
we have better genetics!

Southern Cali is a Mediterranean Climate, making it perfect to grow the best weed in the world. And Californian weed is internationally recognized as the best.

Even better than Amsterdam.

Ha!

Weed reviews = genius. LA is the medical dispensary capital of the USA, so why not?

Hey hipsterorbum, move to a red state.

This reviewer was obviously lied to. Maui Wowie crossed with trainwreck? and it smelled like hay? bullshit. We in the WeedWorld call this 'work'. because for dealers, thats all it is. =)
