British pop new-wavers, Squeeze, have (mostly) reunited and they feel so good. Did you know that Molly Ringwald had a Squeeze poster in her Sixteen Candles room? Did you know that the dreamy blonde lifeguard who worked with me at summer camp had a copy of 45’s and Under in his car. Did you know I can play Yankee Doodle on a ukulele?
Slightly subversive post-punk with an energetic and upbeat sound, Squeeze makes music that doesn’t dry out or stale up with age. There’s is a special sensibility that fully preserves the pop-pleasant feeling.
Aptly paired on the menu for Monday night, are the New Jersey/New York quirk-rockers Fountains of Wayne. Heavily influenced by Squeeze, this band consistently puts out offbeat rock records that turn like they're on rails while throwing sticky hooks at your head. Even better, they sing songs about parkways and laser shows.
Win yourself a pair of tickets to this fine feathered event by responding in the comments section with your favorite lyric by either band. Winner will be chosen at random. Ps you must be a registered commenter to win, so make sure you have a login with a real email address (or we can’t contact you to give you the good news…). Good luck, poppies. Contest ends Friday Aug 10 at 3pm.

"I wanna sink to the bottom with you."
"He can tell me what to do, but he can't tell me what to feel."
So play me the song
That makes it so tough
Another nail for my heart
I've come too fa and I don't want to fail
I've got a new computer and a bright future in sales
Since it's random, I'll keep my fav private... Good luck everyone.
From the isle of dogs
To the egyptian sands
Where the arabs chew on dates
You've left my ring by the soap, now is that love?
"Crumbs in his beard, from the sea food special"
- Leave the Biker by FoW
...and by the time i'm sober, i've forgotten what i've had...
Look behind the Chalet
My holiday's complete
And I feel like William Tell
Maid Marian on her, tiptoed feet
never chew a pickle
with a little slap and tickle
you have to throw the stone
to get the pool to ripple
She has a soft spot for cops who are robots.
My assets froze while yours have dropped
[c'mon it's an entendre!]
I'm going nowhere, getting there soon
Sink to the Bottom - FoW"
At my bedside, empty pocket
A foot without a sock
Your body gets much closer
I fumble for the clock
Alarmed by the seduction
I wish it would stop
LOOOOOOOOVE this band! Singles 45 and under is the best collection EVER!
i used to know you when you were young
you were in all my dreams
we sat together in period one
fridays at 8:15
now i see your face in the strangest places
movies and magazines
i saw you talking to christopher walken
on my teevee screen.
Now his friend leans over and says
Looks like we got us a fag
I wonder if that guy’s read one word
That wasn’t in a porno mag
And I wonder if he ever has cried
'Cause his kitten got run over and died
Baby please leave the biker, leave the biker
Break his heart
Will you stop pretending
I've never been born
Now that I look a little more
Like that guy from Korn?
You know it isn't easy to do
When the DJ isn't humming
A part of me suffers too...
(from 'please don't rock me tonight' FoW xoxox)
But behind the chalet
My holiday's complete
And i feel like william tell
Maid marian on her tiptoed feet
Pulling mussels from a shell
When I was crowned a mummy's boy by friends I didn't like
I made a meal of trips to school upon my father's bike
I used to sit between his legs, perched on a piece of wood
If it ever rained on us, I'd slip beneath his hood
And at home the radio was on
From Julie Andrews to Jerry Garcia
Life was all fun and games
I was out of my head and underneath my bed
Playing with electric trains
