Lest we forget. 13 reasons to love the season.
PRIDE. TRADITION. UCLA.
Bruin football has started practicing for the coming season this week. The opener will be at Stanford on September 1st, just four weeks away (FSN). The first at-home game will be against BYU on September 8th.
The Bruins clock in as the most experienced team in the PAC-10 (25 seniors) including 10 returning starters. Bruin defense was shown to be a powerhouse last season, holding USC to their lowest score in 5 years -- only 9 points. They hope to return this season with a polished-off defense, and have also added offensive coordinator Jay Norvell to their arsenal. Norvell served as offensive coordinator of the Oakland Raiders during the 2002 season, when they averaged 390 offensive yards per game and claimed the AFC championship title.
It looks like the makings of a good season.

10 returning starters on defense. And 10 returning starters on offense as well. Let's hope KD gets his crap together and finally produces a season that lives up to expectations. Or at least another win over $C.
From what I'm hearing, the offense looks absolutely miserable. But I guess that's what happens when you use the West Coast offense in college.
Ouch, that picture still hurts.
I won't deny that "it" (the picture of the score board) didn't happen... ouch. but let's just take a look at the pre-season USA Today poll: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/rankingsindex
fight on!
41 wins to 28 wins, USC.
7 ties.
longest losing streak of 8 games? ucla! 1991-1998
in fact, had we not essentially lost to ourselves in 2006, we would have tied that streak. (we had just had 7 wins in a row, including 2005's 66-19)
so um, color me unimpressed. and not interested.
Fight on, Trojans!
nobody wins in the Coliseum, dude. especially not bRuins.
Although I am a USC fan, I will use a fair example to share my thoughts on Henry being PUMPED for UCLA football. Being pumped for UCLA football is like saying you are pumped for USC basketball. Who cares? What has USC accomplished in basketball? Likewise, what has UCLA accomplished in football (in terms of national championships)?
I beg to differ, #6 commentor. O.J. Mayo, anyone? I'm stoked for USC Bball this year!
Ha! Oh man, where to start...
USC, like UCLA, also has 10 returning starters on defense. The one spot that doesn't feature a returning starter (DE) will most likely be filled by last year's Super Prep National Player of the Year. Additionally, ALL THREE of USC's Linebackers are seen as contenders for the Bednarik award. That's not the award for best LB btw, that's the award for the best defensive player in the NCAA.
Good luck Bruins.
And #7 is absolutely right. You can bet that USC will make it to the sweet 16 this year!
Ben Olsen is going to wish he had never transferred from BYU. BYU is going to be good this year. BYU's defense is going to shut down anything UCLA can give. BYU by two touchdowns. I just bought my tickets to LA to watch it.
@LA Bus Girl
Yes, we have lost a large share of our games to SC, however...who won the last time we met? Oh yeah that's right, UCLA did! Ooh that's still gotta burn...
@guest who gets boners when thinking of Ben Olson.
UCLA will put BYU down hard, mark my words. Ben Olson will have no mercy for his latter day teammates.
Eh, we lost to ourselves. What hurt more was the Rose Bowl v. Texas, when we lost to Vince Young. (Damn him to Hades.)
Either way, Emerald Bowl? Seriously? Only bRuins would brag about a 13-9 victory like that. It's like how drowning rats hold on to the boards of shipwrecked boats to get back to land.
And yes, for O.J. Mayo! I'm so exciting about USC Basketball, at least after how last year we took down Durant. I was at that game in Spokane and it was glorious.
My Trojan pride is too great for a bRuin to put a tent in it--you can call it arrogance but it's got backing in history, dude.
Fight on, Trojans!!!
The football tide is turning in LA folks. Couple more years and the state of things will remind everyone of the 90's all over again. And for most of you who are bandwagoners that don't remember that time, let me tell you the coliseum wasn't full and trojie bandwagon $UCed to an all time low.
#13, I assume you remember the 8 game losing streak y'all had. I assume.
emerald bowl, haha! thanks la bus girl.
fight on trojans!
LA Bus Girl -
Uh, what are you talking about? The 8 game losing streak in the series belongs to USC, not UCLA.
Regardless, it'll be nice when USC fans crawl back into the same holes they emerged from in, oh, 2002 or so.
Hey Bus Girl
USC Lost 8 straight '91-'98. UCLA owned the 90s.
UCLA almost matched the losing streak, but 13-9 stopped it at 7.
UCLA fight fight fight.
I know but I like to just completely ignore it all. It's a coping mechanism. Like humor and death.
Either way, you guys aren't going to win this year. Not a chance.
But maybe you'll beat Stanford.
Actually to be perfectly fair, and this kills me, there is one thing that USC fans and ucla fans can agree on... and that is LA really doesn't need a pro football team because our college ball is kind of awesome.
Please don't quote me on that.
bruins still suck, on principle.
I will concede that USC basketball is very exciting these days, I watched the entire last season.
And consider the tides turned in football, as guest #13 put it. We will smash u guys this season. Coliseum shmaloseum.
yo... me and my 5 bro's and dad who live in the provo area, will be at the game at ucla... should be awsome.. ben olson will regret the day he left the Y. And u better be ready for the game against utah... they are the 2nd best non bcs team behind tcu this year, with byu being 3rd... I know alot of u are chalking those two games up to be wins... big mistake.. u might get byu at home, but i dont think you can take utah at there place with there star qb back this year... see u in pasadena!
