LAst Night's Action: Angels Look Up, Dodgers Fall Fast
Angels 4, A's 3 - The NorCal-SoCal rivalry is heating up in the junior circuit. Oakland and LAnaheim split the four game series, but not without a some players getting beaned (or close to it). In the final game, the Angels got three of their RBIs from Garret Anderson, who is not one of the three Halos to get hit this year. Vladamir Guerrero almost became the fourth victim on Sunday on a pitch that went behind his back. Anaheim has returned the favor, plunking four different A's (twice, in the case of Mark Ellis).
Diamondbacks 3, Dodgers 0 - The D'backs bit the Dodgers for three losses this weekend, sending Los Angeles crashing from first to third in the NL West. The Dodgers have won just 4 of their last 16. Sunday's matchup included two stellar pitchers. Arizona's Brandon Webb, last year's Cy Young winner, hurled a complete game shutout. LA's Brad Penny got tarnished with his second consecutive loss despite throwing seven relatively strong innings.
Galaxy 0, Toronto FC 0 - Los Angeles' anemic offense managed just two shots in Toronto and went home with a scoreless draw. Beckham was on the bench and suited up -- in a navy suit with a red tie. His ankle injury will keep him out of Galaxy action for at least another week, and due to the timing could put him out of England national action for even longer. That may actually be good news for Los Angeles, who don't want to lose him to more national team duty in the long run.
Quote of the Day - "He cannot kick with his left foot, he cannot head a ball, he cannot tackle and he doesn't score many goals. Apart from that he's all right." -- British soccer legend George Best on Beckham.
Elsewhere - This weekend was brought to you by the numbers 300, 500, and 755 (speaking of 755, check out SI's take on Bonds vs. Vader)... At this point it's news when Kobe doesn't say anything. Of course, other news outlets covering Kobe are getting an itchy trigger finger ... Los Angeles will start getting back to normal after hosting LA Starts (including an All Star/Celebrity Game and the Hood Games) and X Games 13 ... The League is back, are you ready for some football?
