LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Comeback, Angels Almost

Barry rocks out in left field.Dodgers 6, Giants 4 - Barry Bonds didn't make any headlines on Wednesday, which was good news for Dodger faithful. Los Angeles needed an eigth inning comeback featuring a home run by Nomar Garciaparra. Nom-ahh also was one of four Dodgers with a stolen base. Russell Martin nabbed one of those bags, matching the team record of 18 stolen bases by a catcher (first set by Con Daily in 1892). For the first time this season, the home team in this rivalry matchup won the game. If you want to rub it in, join our contest to help rename Phoney Park.

Mariners 8, Angels 7, 12 - A three run rally in the ninth gave Anaheim a chance at a big comeback, but nobody would score again until the bottom of the 12th. Seattle's Yuniesky Betancourt singled in the game winner despite the Angel's extreme measure of playing Gary Matthews, Jr. as a fifth infielder to try and hold the runner at third. The M's pulled within three games of the division leading Halos.

Elsewhere - After being forgotten in the sexy blogger competition a few months ago, now we've been left out of the Ballhype Sports Blogger Study. Oh well ... The only thing worse than a statement like this is a, um, nevermind ... Get ready for the National Beep Baseball World Series. You can watch it, unlike the players.

Today's Action - San Francisco plays one more game at Chavez Ravine (7:10pm) ... Anaheim heads to Oakland (7:05pm).

A friend of mine went to the game last ngiht. She had warned me she was going with a bunch of Giants fans. So, while I'm watching from 3rd Stop, Nomah squeaks that ball over the fence and I call, ready to express my jealousy that they're seeing such a kickass game.

She answers from the parking lot, already in a car, waiting to get out of the stadium... apparently, the Giants "fans" she went with all wanted to leave after it was apparent that Bonds wasn't going to play any more that night. She was mad, I was disgusted. I bet these same people go home to Frisco and complain about Dodger fans who leave in the 7th all the time... a-holes, all of em.

Big ups to the geriatric crowd on the team last night - I haven't been their biggest fan this season but they really came through last night and watching Martin go apeshit when Nomah hit that ball... THAT'S what this game is supposed to be about. He genuinely looked excited to be a part of it -- we need more guys like that in pro sports in general, but especially on any team I like. ;)
