LAst Night's Action: Not-So-Welcome To LA
Giants 3, Dodgers 1 - Barry Bonds surprisingly was all smiles despite a bitter reception at Chavez Ravine. While he didn't tie Hammerin' Hank for the career home run title, he did reach base on two walks and scored a run. Brad Penny allowed all three runs in six innings for just his second loss of the year. Baseball royalty on hand included Tommy Lasorda, Bud Selig, and Alyssa Milano. Wait, did we just write that?
Angels 8, Mariners 0 - Maybe Monday was just a fluke. The Halos got back to their scoreboard-assaulting ways, piling up four dingers (two from Gary Matthews, Jr.) for their fifth win in six games. John Lackey pitched his first complete game of the season, giving LAnaheim an all-around dominating performance.
Sparks 73, Liberty 63 - Los Angeles did everything they could to lose, turning the ball over 14 times in the fourth quarter and 26 times overall. Fortunately, New York entered the game with a six game losing streak and was bad enough to give the Sparks a 17 point lead (though it did get trimmed to four thanks to sloppy ball control). This is just the second win for LA in the past dozen games.
Galaxy 6, FC Dallas 5 - Even without David Beckham, scores like this could get Americans to watch soccer. LA's semi-star missed the game again (we've now learned it's because he pushed too hard in Europe), but at least Yahoo ! OMG is following his every move.
Elsewhere - America's great soccer hope up and leaves. No, not Beckham.
Tonight's Action - More NorCal-SoCal, more Barry tonight when the Giants face the Dodgers at 7:00pm ... The Halos continue their series in Seattle at 6:00pm ... It's not tonight, but X Games 13 is this weekend in LA.
