The Japanese Garden at Woodley Park

Traditional Japanese House
Photo by Henry David for LAist.com

The 6.5-acre Japanese Garden in Van Nuys is open 5 days a week. It was opened to the public in 1984 and has since served as an ideal place of rest and meditation.

It is conveniently located close to the 405 freeway in the Valley -- we encourage you to take a visit. It usually has only a handful of visitors and offers more than enough space to walk in peace -- the park even features alternate pathways. And yes, we have posted a photo essay about this very same subject before! Maybe we just really like this Japanese garden.

Hours:
Sunday, 10am to 3:15pm
Monday through Thursday, 12pm to 3:15pm

This is a beautiful spot, just one among many japanese style gardens in LA. For a better understanding of how this gardening style evolved here in the US, see the current exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum downtown and accompanying website. I've written a bit about it and included links in my post at

I'm having a bit of deja vu.

Wow. That's funny.

Just goes to show you how thorough we are at LAist.

There is a stop at Woodley right by this joint on the Orange Line, for the record, so it is totes accesible by public transit.

*accessible.

I thought we were doing The Japanese Garden Project. I was going to do my photo essay next week.

I feel like I once heard there was a Tea house there ?
