The Rapture @ The Mayan 07/26/07

The Rapture with Foreign Born

The Rapture blew everyone away with stage presence that rivals the Rolling Stones. It was all high fives, fist pumps... even crowd surfing and a mosh pit. The Mayan is a cool venue too, with trap doors, secret passages, and tribal decor. It's like watching a concert in the middle of "Indiana Jones and the Temples of Doom".

The Rapture's saxophone/cow bell/synth guy had this infectious two-step dance thing he did, while the drummer exploded, and the guitarist and bassist swapped turns singing the jams. 20 feet out from the stage things were packed into a sweaty mass of flesh and waving arms, and bobbed side to side like the swells of the ocean. The very back of the crowd was bouncing like the floor was made of a trampoline. The Crowd was extremely mixed too, including hardcore punks, party girl heiresses and everything in between.

And the Rapture even proved they care about their audience, when they returned the shoe that had got thrown on stage to its rightful owner.

GIANT disco ball
During their encore the largest disco ball i have ever seen was lowered from some trap door.

the crowd was freakin nuts!

i was hoping you guys would talk about this show! i was on the ground floor and it was...insane! at times a bit worrying cause the crowd was a bit nuts...but totally added to the energy of the show. the rapture blew me away. stage presence, performance..mmmmm. couldn't stop moving :)

I went to both nights, since I won the LAist contest (thanks, btw) and already had bought tickets for Thursday night, and the energy was INSANE at both shows. The crowd was definitely awesome and seemed to feed off the band's energy. I've now seen the Rapture 6 different times and each time I can honestly say they were better than the last time I saw them. There aren't many bands I can that about.

you guys thought the show was insane? boy, you people must not have gone to a lot of shows. go see CSS play --that's a crazy show.

dude, did I not tell you that the Rapture would rock that mofo? congrats on the experience
