Suspicious Package Alert - Looooong Wait At Long Beach

plane.jpg

Hundreds of weary, would-be passengers are wandering through parking lots or holed up in their planes at the Long Beach Airport thanks to something suspicious found in a piece of screened luggage. The bomb squad and their lil robot were called to the scene.

The terminal and boarding lounges have been closed
and outbound flights have been postponed, airport spokeswoman
Sharon Diggs-Jackson said. The airport is still receiving incoming
flights, but passengers will be kept on the planes, she said.

The evacuation was ordered about 9:30 a.m. after airport security
guards found a suspicious piece of luggage, she said.

Maybe you'd rather go to the Fashion District today?

you know, something similar happened at LAX a few weeks ago and i never saw coverage of it anywhere--not on local news, not on local blogs. i went to pick up my mom who ended up having to wait over an hour after her plane got in to get through security. there was a "security breach" (what we were told) and cops and police dogs everywhere and no one would give us a straight story about what was going on. simultaneously, the waiting area for southwest and united (where i was) was experiencing a major plumbing malfunction (unrelated, we were told, to the "security breach") and it was as much as raining inside for nearly the entire time. then firemen came and poured sawdust on the moat that had accumulated. those of us waiting for arriving passengers who were held up couldn't even sit on the benches since they were soaked. i still don't know what happened there.

The Militant knows that photo was not taken at LGB.
