LAst Night's Action: Plan Your Dodger Sleepover
Angels 7, A's 6 - Francisco Rodriguez blew a save opportunity despite a three run lead. Fortunately, he was saved by Maicer Izturis' RBI single with two out in the bottom of the ninth. Vladimir Guerrero took the day off and while the Halos generated plenty of offense without him, none of the 15 hits left the park. The team's recent home run slump coincides with Vlad's, who hasn't gone yard in 24 games despite winning the recent All Star Home Run Derby.
Astros 2, Dodgers 1 - LA and Houston traded solo homers in a fairly quiet game (other than the boos for former Astro Jeff Kent). Derek Lowe, who looked good through four innings, left in the fifth with a groin pull.
College Watch - Things are probably a little uncomfortable around the J.D. Morgan Center. Eric Scott, a freshly hired UCLA football coach, was arrested yesterday for burglarizing a house in Norwalk. The Bruins were hoping he would steal some key recruits from USC, but not like this ... Sports Illustrated picked their top 10 USC athletes of all-time. How good are the Trojans? Reggie Bush was only fifth ... Number four on the list, Matt Leinart, is being hit up for $30,000 a month by his baby mamma'.
Around Town - No need to break into Dodger Stadium. You can spend Friday night sleeping on the field, for a price. Online registration is closed, so you have to call (323) 224-1513 and be ready to plop down $200 for an adult or $100 for kids ... The Blue Crew is also planning on honoring the 10th Anniversary of Tommy Lasorda's Hall of Fame Introduction. We're glad Tommy isn't making the plans himself. Not everybody has the same tastes ... About 1% of homes that get ESPN tuned in to watch the Beckham debut ... The 2008 Amgen Tour of California host cities will include Santa Clarita and Pasadena.
Elsewhere - Looks like the NHL didn't want to miss out on the pro-athletes-getting-arrested craze. The Staal brothers (yup, both skate professionally) were arrested while one of them was having a bachelor party ... Baseball is responding to the sport's second death ever. One first base coach is wearing a helmet ... The Red Sox might not want to wear anything on their heads, so they can show off their 'dos.
Tonight's Action - It's Pac 10 Media Day today! We wonder if reporters will ask Karl Dorrell about something besides Coach Scott. Maybe they'll give him a break (in) ... Dodgers @ Colorado (6:05pm) ... Chivas USA @ New York (4:00pm).
