Snow Patrol w/ Hot Hot Heat @ The Greek Theatre - 7/22/07

If you have watched any primetime television or new release movies you have most likely heard the bombastic sounds of Snow Patrol. In the past year alone the Scottish group has been featured in more than ten films and television shows; their single "Chasing Cars" was featured on the ABC show Grey's Anatomy not once, not twice, but three times. They are also Zach Braff-approved, with songs on both Garden State and The Last Kiss.

Watching a performance of theirs, it is quite easy to see why they have achieved this level of popularity and success. While their music borders on formulaic, it is nonetheless entertaining and they are a pleasure to watch. In the vein of Travis and Coldplay, their ballad-driven rock is filled with crescendos and sing along choruses that are the soundtrack to relationships and heart breaks and they had the nearly full Greek Theatre crowd singing along with their big hits, "Run" and "Chocolate."

Their show was a solid affair of chart toppers and tight musicianship. Lead singer Gary Lightbody looked to be truly enjoying his time in front of the crowd, dedicating each track to someone in the crowd or even a bug that landed on his set list...and then died. There were no crazy surprises, with the exception of an apperance by the Watson Twins, as they joined the band to sing in place of Martha Wainwright on one of the show's standout songs, "Set the Fire to the Third Bar."

Opening for Snow Patrol was the "it" band of a few years ago, Hot Hot Heat. They are back on the scene with a new album. The high energy band was a great opening act and provide a great lead-in to Snow Patrol. It will be great to see these guys when they come back around LA in support of their new album.

I was there, thanks for the pictures since I sat in Section B. I missed the first portion of Hot hot heat's setlist. I like the two bands, but I enjoyed the recent Arcade Fire concert more. It was nice to hear all those radio/soundtrack ballads like Run and Chocolate.

I can't wait for Rilo Kiley and Eisley when they have their headline tour this summer.

What type of camera do you use Joey? Perhaps this question was asked before.

Joey - I was there as well and agree with you about Lightbody - damn can he sing. While their music has become a bit formulaic for my tastes (especially with the new album), you can't argue with how much he means it when he sings. He truly seems to be enjoying every moment up there...with that huge grin during every song...which you have to appreciate no matter what the music sounds like.

Great pics as always!

Snow Patrol is WACKadoodle!!!!
Hot Hot Heats first ep was damn good though.
