<description>&lt;p&gt;That is so intensely incorrect and cynical that it is almost laughable. More than half of the nominees are not Downtown News advertisers. We (the editorial staff of the paper, not the ad sales  staff) take our best shot at what would be intuitively so to Downtown News readers, and then ask readers to vote. If we make an obvious omission, readers can, as you point out, write in someone else. We&apos;re happy to learn of things we didn&apos;t know about Downtown and people&apos;s opinions of various businesses and services.

<description>&lt;p&gt;Residents who live downtown and were asked to take that poll may not know that each of the five businesses listed in each category had advertised with Downtown News at some point in time or were currently advertising in Downtown News at the time of polling.

While there was a blank space under each category to add your own nominee, a straw man among several downtown residents doesn&apos;t reflect that any of the reader-nominated choices made the list.

While not entirely a scientific way to demonstrate the list is not exactly &quot;of the people&quot; it is something to keep in mind when reviewing the list...&lt;/p&gt;</description>
