I think the problem may also be the ticket prices. i used to just pay $18 for a cheap seat, now a cheap seat is $50. it's annoying that i have to pay more than double for the same seat. i'm a huge galaxy fan and beckham fan, but jacking up the prices sucks.

A brilliant cross or telling through ball that puts your striker in scoring position is just as exciting and just as vital as actually putting the ball in the back of the net. Now I'm no Beckham fan, but he is certainly one of the best at this. If people in the stands or watching on TV are only interested in goals then they don't know the beautiful game at all. Leave the Hollywood circus at home, we need true soccer fans.

Galaxy fans didn't care about Tigres. Meaningless friendlies don't have much appeal. Imagine if the Lakers were playing a mediocre team from Mexico without Kobe Bryant at 5:30 on a Tuesday.

While the Chelsea match on Saturday is also a meaningless friendly, it would be still be sold out regardless if Beckham was on the team. Soccer fans respect Chelsea's (the Yankees of England) star power.

No one is asking Becks to save American Soccer. It doesn't need saving. by 2010, 10 of the 14 teams will be playing in their own stadium. Attendance has increased every season. Beckham is just going to accelerate the growth a bit, and give the league some credibility.

Also, the best goal-scorers in the world only get one goal every 2 or 3 games. Pele's strike rate is incredible, but it came in the 1960's when defense hadn't been invented yet.
