Westwood Farmer's Market is Back. Tell Your Mother.
OK, well it isn't exactly the same make and model as the old farmer's market, which recently kicked the bucket -- but it's got heart, which is all that matters. You see, the popular Westwood Farmer's Market of Weyburn Ave was shut down by the LAFD in March 2006 because of safety concerns during construction. There were problems re-establishing the farmer's market on other nearby streets because as everybody knows, Westwood residents and merchants can be little bitches at times.
And instead of saying "fuck this," Westwood Village Farmer's Market people decided to put up with a year of negotiations with numerous Westwood groups and associations. Their patience paid off -- the new farmer's market is:
Sundays, 10am to 3pm on Broxton Ave, right across from the Fox Village Theater.

I'm really excited that there's a market back in Westwood... but just so you all know... soon after the old Thursday afternoon Westwood farmers' market was shut down, they did actually reopen in the VA Compound just west of the 405. Not everyone from the Westwood one transferred to the new one, and after a while they stopped calling it the Westwood market and renamed it the VA Market, but it's still got some of the same stands from Westwood, and it's still held on Thursdays 12-7pm. It's unaffiliated (as far as I know) with the new Westwood one on Sundays.
This market is not only great for being on Thursday afternoons, or for having the same citrus stand, French baker (Taste of Provence), German baker (Röckenwagner), potato stand, tamales, vegan soul food, and Greek food place as the old market.... it's also great because it has exposed me (and probably lots more people in the area) to the VA Compound and the absolutely gorgeous Vets' Gardens. It's a little tough to get to (no bus access, but you can walk from the bus stop at Wilshire/Bonsall), but they have ample parking and you can always bike!! It's on Constitution next to the Jackie Robinson Stadium, northwest of the Wilshire/405/Sepulveda interchange. Check it out if you're in the Westwood/Brentwood/West LA area and miss the old Thursday afternoon market!
