Anyone who follows sports knows about the losing history of Philadelphia teams. Since the Philadelphia 76ers won the NBA finals in 1983 no Philadelphia team has won a championship.
So should it come as any surprise that the Phillies would be the first North American sports team with 10,000 losses?
This is the same organization that had to use sheep in the 1920s to maintain the playing field.
This is the same organization that had 100 or more losses for five consecutive years from 1938 to 1942.
This is the same organization whose manager Terry Francona (now the Boston Red Sox skipper) had his tires slashed on fan appreciation day.
This is the same organization that has a fan website dedicated to the celebration of their 10,000th loss which came on Sunday night thanks to the St. Louis Cardinals.
So it should come as no surprise that the Dodgers put the game away in the sixth inning taking a 10-1 lead when Matt Kemp hit a three-run homer to the Dodger bullpen.
I’m taking the Dodger’s offensive explosion with a huge grain of salt. Coming into Monday’s game the Phillies have given up the most homeruns in baseball with 126 homers and are dead last in the National League with a 4.94 team ERA.
So the 10-run explosion is what they’re supposed to do.
What was uplifting was the fact the Dodgers kept the Phillies from scoring.
The Phillies are third behind the Dodgers and the Rockies in NL batting average and third behind the Reds and Brewers in homeruns hit. To say they are potent is an understatement.
Tubby started out the game a bit shaky giving up an earned run. He got stronger throughout the game eventually striking out eight and putting up six innings of zeroes.
With the 10-3 victory, the Dodgers are now on their longest winning streak of the season with five wins.Now the question remains: should the Dodgers make a move before the trading deadline on July 31?
Two things of note: before the All Star break the Dodgers hit five three-run homers. Tonight they hit two. Also, when was the last time there was a 3-6-1 double play? I'm really curious.

Nomar went 2-3 with an RBI double in the first inning. So he did a good job Monday night. Good for him.

Unless the Dodgers can make a trade that doesn't involve any of our prospects, then Colletti shouldn't pull the trigger on any possible deal. Last year, Boston wanted James Loney and Jonathon Broxton for David Wells and Colletti thought about it before making the right decision to decline. Other teams know how much potential the youngsters have. The Dodgers know they potential yet they seem apprehensive about giving them a chance to strut their stuff. Loney is a stud first baseman, Broxton is going to be a dominant closer soon, Billingsley is getting into a groove, and Matt Kemp could be the most talented of the bunch. The Dodgers let Russell Martin play and he prospered into the starting NL all star catcher. Hopefully, Colletti sees the writing on the wall that our next generation of home grown Dodgers are ready to bring the team back to elite status.
