I mean to say good experiences... not goot or even goat, which would sorta make sense. While I'm correcting myself I'll concur that the Indie coffee shop across from Starbucks (right outside Pit Fire Pizza) is the place to go. The coffee tastes ten times better than Starbucks and the guy is way pleasant. Goot day.

Good call on avoiding the Ralph's @ Magnolia and Vineland. It's hell on earth and the lines are NEVER shorter than 10 people deep. It's also nasty as hell and stocks about half the shit other Ralph's do. I've had nothing but goot experiences around the corner at Coley's on Magnolia. Best Jerk Chicken in LA.

The coffee bar across the street from Starbucks is a nice indie-alternative, with a great shaded outdoor seating area (though perhaps a few too many flies). Also, two soul food restaurants between 5 points and just north of Lankershim & Burbank.

i think the ha ha is one of the forgotten levels of hell, and was definitely left off on purpose. i always think poquito mas is farther east on magnolia than it really is, so mea culpa on that one and good call. my b/f just told me the other day that the caltrans yard is set to become a field/stadium for the new high school (East Valley HS--looks like a prison) so that's something to keep an eye out for. the stoner kids definitely need some bleachers to go sit under and hide from fourth period geometry, since their school is nothing but chain link and asphalt. i was waiting for you to point out my gaps, city nerd! :)

So, just a few points (of many that could be made)... First, those crosswalks only have a two-year life - after that, they'll need to be repainted or removed. Defintely missing from this essay is Poquito Mas on Magnolia ad the HA HA Cafe on Lankershim. There is also no mention of CIA adn teh new High School/Caltrans Yard. Lots happening here: the original Catholic church (before St. Charles in Toluca Lake/South North Hollywood was built) is in an industrial area just north of Chandler.

and yes, the building at 5303 lankershim was a bookstore when i was growing up. bank heist sounds a little--overwrought. too bad there's not a more mellow plan for a local watering hole.

No mention of North Hollywood Billiards?!? Pfft. I miss Bud's Red Hots, and Phil's Diner, where the Idiot's Mish-Mosh got me through many a hangover. Speaking of which, my ex and I used to love hanging out at Sittons with all the trannys from the Queen Mary after the bars closed up on Saturday nights. Lots of fun. ~db~

Carrie--Alton Brown (swoon!) was born in North Hollywood and lived there til he was about six. (There's one ep of "Good Eats" where he's a child in the shopping cart with his 'mom' pushing it and the tag at the bottom of the screen says: "Gelson's, North Hollywood.")Nosy me dig some digging and verified it via the internets. Yay NoHo! Thanks guys! I had SO MUCH FUN doing this! :)
