Actually, no, #16 Check the Silver Lake neighborhood council's map out: http://www.silverlakenc.org/about.php Neither Tang's, nor Malo, nor the 'Elliot Smith' wall are within Silver Lake's official boundaries according to its neighborhood council.

Uh...you've missed a chunk of Silver Lake with your directions. In fact, your headline photo of Malo and the Elliott Smith shrine aren't even included in the boundaries you've set up. Silver Lake isn't bordered by Myra. You follow Hoover ALL THE WAY up to Fountain and then Northeast to Hyperion. I should know...I live in that little forgotten "pocket" and Eric Garcetti is indeed my city councilman, too.

I wish this lived up to the other neighborhood posts. As a Silver Lake resident, I find this really lacking. There's so much more to living here than was covered in this post. No mention of what used to be a thriving gay community? No shout-out to Lovecraft Fuels or El Cid? Secret Headquarters? The Farmer's Market? The Cheese Store? And that's just what you've forgot on the south side of the reservoir. I feel kind of let down! I really enjoyed the other posts in this series (especially Burbank [my hometown] and Little Armenia [where I lived before heading to SL]) Silver Lake is so much more than what this post made it out to be. It's the first place I've lived in the city where I know all my neighbors and the strong sense of community and neighborly-ness makes it far more appealing than the presence of "hipsters".

P.S. Upon further review it does matter what day of the week in regards to Los Globos incorrectly reported as "going off every night." The place is only open Fridays and Saturday nights.

Aaaaah, yes...silver lake. loved it, lived there for 10 years before I was evicted in 2003 for hipsterfication. had to leave, couldn't afford the newly imposed rents or a mortgage.

I'm in complete agreement on those El Conquistador margaritas. I drank two in a row once and spent the entire evening apologizing to a buddy about every mean thing I had done since we were teenagers. One margarita is my new limit from that place.

Oh yeah, some more: - Before the lake, the area was known as Ivanhoe. For those of you familiar with the Sir Walter Scott novel, you the book's references live on in the nomenclature of some of the streets (Rowena Ave, Locksley Place). - Before hipsterfication, the area had a considerable Japanese American population. - The mother of another one of Militant's high school pals was struck by a car while jogging around the lake; she died, her husband was injured. Though the lake is somewhat safer for joggers now, please be extra careful driving around there.

The Militant was ready to flinch if he a saw a non-Silver_Lake establishment being passed as Silver_Lake, but you guys are all right. As for the one-word thing, a conversation with my old high school buddy several years ago brought us to the conclusion that one can tell easily the n00bs from the long-time locals apart as the newbies are prone to not only spelling it as "Silverlake" but using "Silverlake, CA" (eugh...) in their return addresses.
