There is nothing more disgusting, repulsive, and unforgivable than to have a child molester roam free on the block. So to sit and watch the way the Catholic Church has been treated with, dare we say, kid gloves, is outrageous.
No offense to the religion or their parishioners, but if a neighbor has a pit bull and it bites kids, you take care of that problem. Likewise if many pit bulls in the neighborhood start biting kids, guess what - no more fucking pit bulls in the town.
The fact that countless number of lives have been ruined by over 4,392 sex-deprived US priests who don't bite the kids - they rape them - and are then ushered around to new, unsuspecting communities, once the word gets out, is one of the easiest-preventable tragedies in this country.
Screw these hundred million dollar payouts, derived from monies gained from selling primo real estate: Either ban the fucking Catholic Church due to the fact that they're proven criminal rapists, or ban the un-biblical Catholic practice that priests cannot marry.
The only Jews who made it out of Egypt and into the Promise Land were the sons of Levi, the priests, and they had wives. Until the Catholic priests can prove that they can be celibate and not fuck little kids, then they shouldn't be allowed to practice here - or they should be forced to change what's broken.

In this great and diverse country, one is always proud to see their own city on the front page of the national newspapers, so you can imagine my pride yesterday when Los Angeles turned out to be the place where the Catholic Church has had to pay the largest fine ever for diddling kids, $660 million. (Full disclosure: I was raised Catholic and I was sometimes alone with priests, although none ever tried anything. Which is a little insulting.)And the fact that the Cardinal is still allowed to represent LA after being in and around the system that created guys like Oliver O'Grady, is also a slap in the face of all the victims.Cardinal Mahoney announced that to help pay for the deal, the church would sell a building it owns on Wilshire and about 50 other properties they weren't using, which reminded me, oh yeah, the Catholic Church owns more property out here than Bob Hope did -- and why? Oh, yeah, because it's a business -- and not just a business, really, the greatest business in the world, in that, like all religions, it's selling an invisible product. It doesn't really get easier than that, unless you count Edgar Bergen, a ventriloquist on the RADIO.
Plus that Cathedral is butt ugly.
Best thing about Catholics are their churches, and LA's could be the fugliest any city has ever had.
The symbolisms of that incredibly closed, dark, jail-like cathedral, built in a soulless part of town, closer to the City Jail than any beautiful, life-giving park, fits that house of horrors perfectly.
The fact that the sitting Pope was a former Hitler Youth who watched as the former Pope allowed scumbags like Boston's Cardinal Law escape to Italy instead of face charges in the States is disgusting.
Throwing money at heinous crimes should never be the only form of repentance.
If you don't throw kid-fuckers out of your town then, hate to say it, you're part of the problem.

I have also met some of the most genuine beautiful people I have yet to meet in my 23 years around. This is because there are 12 million people in Los Angeles. Part of the problem is forced celibacy; it does make for an unhealthy atmosphere.
But married non-priests also molest kids.
The real problem here is the cover-up mentality that allows child-molesters, alcoholics, mentally ill and psychologically abusive clergy to just be transferred from one place to another.
I am not excusing sick bastards; they are sick bastards. But they are sick. When an entire institution is consciously willing to look the other way and enable these kinds of problems, they are the ones who really are going to burn.

Whoa, for once I agree with Tony's dickishness. Mahoney is a guy who has protected child molesters for many, many years. I've got no sympathy for the church in this one. Today I heard the Cardinal say he had no idea of how much emotional damage the raping of children by priests has had on the victims. He still refuses to acknowledge personal responsibility and instead offers this "apology from the church". So they lose a few buildings to pay this off. Big deal. It's still not enough. There are pedophiles among us. Until they are locked up, I could care less about apologies.

Depending on which estimates you follow, you will find that between 2-4 percent of the general U.S. male population is a child molestor. Similarly, about 4% of Catholic priests are child molestors.
So if you are going to make a sweeping generalization of an entire community based on molestation rates consistent with the Catholic Priests, basically you have advocate disbanding every possible organization in America, including Republicans, Democrats, avowed heterosexuals, married people, and yes, bloggers.

It makes no sense at all that these priests and their accomplices continue to be above the law. Why are they not being put in jail? As someone with a family member who was molested by a priest, it enrages me that they continue to have immunity from the justice system.

I don't think that would at all solve anything. I agree that it's a stupid rule, but it isn't the cause of this problem. People who molest kids don't do it because they're sex deprived - otherwise they'd just have sex with someone of age: wrong from a liturgical standpoint, but not illegal. Pedophiles will molest children whether or not they're married, have regular sex with adults, or wear a collar, and none of them should have the luxury of using forced celibacy as an excuse for their actions.
