Say it Ain't So, Rocky!

rocky delgadilloYou may remember Rocky Delgadillo got himself into a bit of hot water in recent weeks over a series of highly publicized gaffes that culminated in the state Franchise Tax Board revealing that his wife, Michelle Delgadillo, had reneged on filing tax returns for her company (that's a big no-no). Other lapses included his using city resources for personal reasons and allowing his wife to drive his city-owned car without valid insurance or a driver's license.

Now Rocky, the Los Angeles City Attorney, has been served with a recall notice that he must respond to within the next two weeks. Once his response is certified by the city clerk, Andrew Ahlering, a former county employee who is leading the recall effort, will need to collect 213,000 signatures in 120 days before an election can take place. The City Ethics Commission is currently investigating the allegations first raised by the Los Angeles Times and several city employees.

Said a chastened Delgadillo: "I'm focusing on the work the people of this city elected, and reelected, me to do. I'm fighting gangs, slumlords, polluters and unscrupulous hospitals who dump their indigent patients. I am going to continue my fight to keep our neighborhoods and schools safe and secure."

Oh how the mighty have fallen...

First, how are they going to get 213,000 signatures? That won't be easy or cheap.
Second, think about how this all began. A story about his wife not paying a ticket that went to warrant. But the ticket was in her maiden name. And her first name was misspelled (wrongs number of ls). And she had a Montana license. The Times just didn't happen on this info. Somebody with access to databases that most don't have came up with the info and gave it to them. Who? Well, who did Rocky diss for letting Paris out of jail? And does he have such access? Yes, my money is on Lee Baca. Nice vengeful move, Lee.
