HurryDate: The Race for Love

Love connection?

No time to find that special someone? Check out HurryDate, a speed dating service that hosts parties at fun spots around the city. The set-up is pretty typical: you have brief one-on-ones with about a dozen "dates," and a whistle blow indicates it's time to move on to the next potential love connection. Everyone gets a scorecard to mark "yes" or "no" after each date's name, you enter that info. in the HurryDate website, and then they match you with the people who liked you back.

Everyone posts a profile and picture on the site to help you recall who exactly you had that riveting 5-minute conversation with. We'll tell you more later in the week after we do a little hurrydating of our own. Gulp. Here are a few upcoming parties, can't tell you which one we'll be infiltrating!

But what about us me that are not Jewish and over 35 but under 40?

Where's the love!!!

I wanted to type "men" not me.

The Militant attended one of those speed dating events last summer, incidentally at the Hideaway (organized by another company - what is it about that place?) Needless to say it was a disaster. Everyone who's attractive is either boring or got more issues than a magazine stand, and everyone who's interesting is not attractive to me at all. Sigh.. Why is it so damn hard to find a nice Militant Angelena?

I went to one of these at Bar Copa last year and it just felt like a lot of work. In the beginning, you enjoy the novelty of it all but after the 10th "date" you just want it to be over with already. And I had gone with a bunch of girls and none of us had any luck in terms of finding anyone we liked. I guess it was fun to compare notes afterward though.

I LOVE HurryDate! I have done a few of them and have met the nicest people. No, I don't work for the company, but I do believe that we know in the 'blink' of an eye (thank you Malcolm Gladwell, author of Tipping Point and Blink) whether we mesh well with someone else. Why waste so much time on regular dates!

I've done speed dating before. I think it was HurryDate actually. It's a TRIP. I didn't happen to meet anyone from it, but it was just fun (and funny) to talk to all those people in one night.

So much fun! I've HurryDate'd before and I met lots of cool people...including females that I've kept in touch with. It's a fun night out with social people; sure beats the odds of meeting "the one" at a bar, or bumping into him at Trader Joe's. These venues are awesome, too!

I love speed dating! I've done HurryDate and it's awesome. When else does a working woman get to meet 10+ guys in one night? Even if you don't meet "the one" it's still so much fun!

"Everyone who's attractive is either boring or got more issues than a magazine stand, and everyone who's interesting is not attractive to me at all. Sigh.."

sigh, indeed. the whole reason i haven't gone for any of these things is it seems i always run into that same kind of problem. though i guess i can't knock it if i haven't tried it, right?

to me, eharmony and match and all those are really a bit too costly (i swear, i'm not that cheap) for me to justify it. seriously, does one really need to spend so much just to meet someone?
to me, it's ridiculous.

so i guess that's why this angelena is still single.

bleh.
