rayisonit,

what are you saying exactly? that criticizing a lame tv show is something that people other than locals do? or its something that only white people do?

please explain your ignorance.

and #7 - are you high? the biggest tv show starring black people ever totally destroyed black stereotypes and got huge ratings. why would you think that BET would need to do the reverse of what has been proven to be successful to get ratings?

excellent review Kemp. right on the money!

The show must depict certain stereotypes in order to get and keep its viewers. Who in America wants to see black people that do not fit into sterotypes? That doesn't allow society to continue to look down on the blacks. The sad thing is, is that black youth gives in to these stupid stereotypes for the "cool" factor. What happened to being cool for being smart or being successful based on non-athletic abilities? Most of the viewers probably were not, and are not going to be, black. Its going to be the white kids that watch this, which is just going to further spread these sterotypes.

Right on, Kemp. Good Review.

About 3 years ago, I switched my cable provider from Comcast (which had terrible service) to satellite (DishTV).

I don't watch a lot of TV so I got the basic package on DishTV, which does not include BET (which was included in Comcast's basic package).

Seriously, I haven't missed BET one iota since switching to DishTV. BET once had an editorial viewpoint in addition to the entertainment programming, but BET has changed corporate owners so many times that the notion that it cultural relevance in the black community is laughable.

WELL WRITTEN! But the reason for this is BET is still making shows for its core and steady audience. Its BET not EveryoneET. But did you see the BET Awards a week ago? They were 10 times better than last years MTV Video Music Awards. Props to whoever produced that show.

P.S. I've been in Monterey Park for about 4 years now. Kudos to you for giving a shout out to the old MP. Very few people I encounter that live on the west side even know where Monterey Park is.

Seriously who can we sue to stop making shows like this? Call me old fashion but isn't this sending the wrong message to our young viewers (which is the target audience) not to mention the wrong idea of the area in which the kids are from. I grew up in Laguna Beach and did not experience anything like what was depicted on the show and I was a minority there at the time to boot.

Enough with shows glorifying the bratty, self centered, ignorant, spoiled, intolerant, inexperienced, privileged kids.

Or maybe I'm just getting old.
