LSU is now #1 and USC is nowhere near the top 5 level. Seems like the summer comments of Les Miles are substantiated. After LSU wins the national championship (under the direction of the great football scholar Les Miles), I'm sure that misguided USC fans will come up with some ridiculous story to explain the poor performance of the pre-season ranked #1 team. Sure you had some injuries, but so did LSU. The difference is that the LSU coaching staff adapted whereas USC's staff did not.

Les Miles is a Cajun? That would be news to him. Living in Louisiana no more makes a person Cajun than living in California makes a person Hispanic.

You claim that Carroll and the press started a propaganda campaign dismissing LSU's shared title claim. I challenge you to provide any quote by Pete Carroll that dismisses or disparages LSU or their national title claim (of course, I expect any such claim to backed with a source reference or link). The fact is – you won’t be able to find it. It’s in Carroll’s character to focus on the positive aspects of his team – not to detract from others. The real travesty is that SC did not get to play in the title game that year – but did you hear Carroll focusing on that – no you did not. He handled the whole thing with a lot of dignity & class. I am still amazed that so many LSU fans (but certainly not all) focus on having to split the title with SC, instead of focusing on the great tem you guys had that year and all that they accomplished. Grow up – stop whining.

Like most in California, you don't really understand why Tiger fans are still rankled over 2003. There wouldn't be a problem had Pete Carroll, the Trojan nation and the national press given LSU credit for a split national title, but that didn't happen. Instead Carroll and the press immediately started a propaganda campaign dismissing LSU's shared-title claim, which continued through 2005 (remember ESPN's threepeat hype).
Had the shoe been on the other foot (USC wins the BCS title game and LSU finishes first in the AP poll), we all know that USC faithful would have still argued an exclusive claim to the title.
The truth is that both LSU and USC were great teams in 2003 and no one will ever know which team was better. Most LSU fans are happy to accept that. That hasn't been the case on the USC side. That's what sticks in our craw.
