LAst Night's Action: Rough Day On The Diamond
Marlins 6, Dodgers 5 - The Dodgers could only briefly enjoy their five run inning. After erasing a 3-0 deficit with two out in the fifth, the Blue Crew eventually turned into the Blew Crew. Takashi Saito botched just his second save of the year, and Florida scored the winning run in the top of the 10th. The Dodgers loaded 'em up in the bottom half of the frame, but couldn't get anybody home.
Yankees 14, Angels 9 - The Halo's slump continued in New York. Every Yankee had at least a hit and an RBI, powering the Bronx Bombers to a season high in both hits and runs. Colon was torn apart by seven runs and seven hits in just two innings of work. For the Yankees, A-Rod went deep to break an 0-for-19 rut and tie both Lou Gehrig and Fred McGriff at 22nd on the career home run list.
Elsewhere - One LA Times writer thinks there's nothing like a good Dick Pound, though most athletes probably want to keep him out of the locker room ... Beckham's debut is days away. His team will sport a new uniform upon his arrival. It was supposedly a well guarded secret, but was leaked out ... If you hadn't heard, the Pac 10 dominated the Sears Directors Cup, a "national championship" for all college sports programs. Stanford won for the 13th year in a row, while UCLA was runner up and USC finished in fifth ... The US soccer team upset Brazil! But only in U-20 action.
