I mostly agree with your review however, you have a few details wrong. The salmon amuse wasn't salmon at all, it was sea trout. Also, as another poster mentions, not john dory but halibut over diced potato. This was perhaps the most delicate and artful of all the dishes - not the palate walloping that the scallop was subjected to by the overwhelming sherry reduction.
Our service wasn't slow however we didn't get the kind of attention that some other tables received and most disappointingly, we didn't receive descriptions of many of the items we received. With a tasting menu, I want every last ingredient and how the chef used it to shape my experience - and last night that was lacking.

Hey Callie - thanks!! It is totally worth it - go go go!!! Plus I got pretty drunk off of all the great wines, so that's definitely worth a good chunk of change.

I coulda sworn the menu said John Dory - but I have only my memory to rely upon, and well, it's fuzzy at best. Heh.

But my dining partner actually really liked the fish as well - I really thought it was too bland, and if it was halibut, that's surprising, because it's my second favorite fish. LOVED the scallops though. I could eat that every day. I'm totally not a dessert person, but the pineapple/popcorn dish was right up my alley, with that nice combo of savory, salty, sweet, all the good S's.

What other dishes were on the 9-course menu? SO JEALOUS!!!!

I had the 9-course tasting menu last night, and I'm pretty sure that what you refer to as John Dory was really halibut -- which, by the way, I must disagree with you about. The fish over the tiny cubed potatoes was sublime. Conversely, the scallop, which was delicious, seemed overwhelmed by the reduction sauce with which it was served.

I don't mean to quibble, the food is all superior. And the dessert may have been the most stellar dish in the entire meal.

Thank you so much for sharing your dining experience at Providence. Before you shell out major bucks for a supposedly amazing dining experience, it's nice to hear it's worth it, especially in this town where food and food prices are often secondary to the scene at the restaurant.

We'll plan to go soon!!!
