Apparently the iPhone that Apple sent to LAist to review got lost in the mail, but the NY Times got theirs and did a pretty cheesy video that shows off the good and bad parts about the coolest new phone since... well... ever.
Actually LAist wasn't supposed to get a free phone, but we can dream can't we?
Anyways - yes it's sad and weird that Apple has set it up so that you can only get phone service from AT&T, and the phone does not have a removable memory card in it for expansion, or a battery that you can easily replace once it stops recharging.
But the interface does seem to be what we hoped things would be like in 2007. Therefore, get ready to pay close to $700 for a telephone.

The final cost including tax for the 8G model will be $648.42, $540.17 for the 4G model. This does not include Applecare, which everyone should buy.
If the iPhone were merely a phone, it wouldn't cost anything close to these prices. I think people need to start thinking of gadgets like these as multi-function mini computers with the capability of making phone calls. Given the iPhone's primary data space being reserved as .mp3 and video player, it might be more appropriate to consider it an iPod that acts like a phone. That browses the web. And acts like a PDA. Etc....
Pppfffthh... I'll wait on this. I don't need to be that connceted.
That is precisely what I said about cell phones, 8 years ago.
This phone is completely useless because it doesn't use att/cingular's 3g-hsdpa network, instead it uses the old(dial-up like) EDGE network. Browsing the web on it will be excruciatingly slow.
The scene at the end of the video where the office workers are turned away because of the "AT&T only", etc. is what got me. I'd like one, but I can't afford it, so I'll wait until my current phone contract expires to see where I'm at and where iPhone is at.
