Paris Hilton, Britney Spears & Los Angeles Politics

Paris Hilton, Los Angeles City Hall, Britney Spears

When a celebrity moves next door, so does the parking and traffic problems caused by paparazzi. So who do you call to solve the problem? Well, the city of course. And in this town, local politicians are no stranger to loving or hating celebs, whether it be Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo and most recently, City Councilman Jack Weiss:

An embattled city councilman who has been accused of making the gut-wrenching Los Angeles traffic even worse has all suddenly taken a very special interest in one very special street -- the one Paris Hilton lives on. [TMZ.com]

Weiss, whose council district takes on much of the West Hollywood Hills is no stranger to the celebrity/paparazzi/fanbase/traffic problem. Before the Paris traffic jam, Britney Spears' new home off Mulholland Drive at Summit Circle caused dangerous traffic hazards.

The entrance to her gated community is across from a small stretch of dirt where paparazzi would wait for her to leave. The space is officially for broken down cars and emergency services. Unfortunately, the paparazzi claimed it home when Spears was home. Jack Weiss' office requested the North Hollywood Police Division to respond aggressively and ticket the paparazzi while Weiss got DOT to put up 'No Parking Anytime' Signs (which DOT did in an amazing 7 days -- totally unheard of). The tickets must have been costly, because the paparazzi are actually obeying the signs.

Unfortunately, now they are taking over a scenic overlook parking area near TreePeople at Coldwater Canyon, sticking it to the tourists.

Here's a silly game where you try to free Paris from jail by catapulting her from Prison to Rodeo Drive:

Free Paris Game

Enjoy

Shame on you for reproducing the sleazy TMZ link that was given to them/ spun by the recall people.
This is a serious issue, and as a neighbor I know, but this group tries to make it seem like Weiss was using the fact that his office addressed neighbors' concerns -- as he has others in my hood and others like Britneys, and HOlmby Hills where Paris was later released after her term -- just because he is "embattled" and to counter them. In effect, they're trying to get him to ignore our needs to prove that they're right in the first place -- a shady group and spoiled brats, who didn't get to shake down (yes, that is the valid term) some developers in a direct attempt to supercede the Councilman's authority, like little fiefdoms in the Wild West.

This group has taken stands which hurt a number of other neighborhoods in CD5 also, and have behaved in duplicitous ways. I could get some neighbors to threaten to recall Arnold, but that wouldn't make him "embattled" or be worthy of reprinting.
