Last month, I sent a question to all the other writers about late-night dining options in Downtown. There was a lot to be said about The Pantry last week, but today we continue with other options. The following is taken from a casual conversation from the LAist back channels.
(c): Pete's Cafe / 4th and main. Read my LAist piece. Open til 2. Reasonable unless they go for a steak and a bottle of wine. Pacific Dining Car / 6th east of the 110 (look for the cow out front). Never closes. Expensive, super duper old school steak house. I personally prefer Morton's, but you can get a great steak here.
Wathana: I love little tokyo. oomasa is great and serves late. also there are some great noodle bars that are open late.
Kemp: I say Little Tokyo, with Mr. Ramen, Daikokuya and Shabu Shabu House being my picks, in that order.
Jared: An izakaya, a japanese style tapas bar, could work too. There should be several open at that time. Haru Ulala is tasty, bare bones and the Kirin flows freely, but it's a little on the slow side. Izayoi is supposed to be great, a little sleeker and refined.
Carrie: well, if they stay up really late, Clifton's Cafeteria opens at 6:30a. the food sucks but the place itself is so ridiculously awesome.
Malingering: ...sometimes we go to Suehiro after [Dodger] games, it's open late and the suehiro udon is really good.
Callie: e3rd steakhouse is my pick. they serve food until 1am and drinks until 2am - a rarity downtown. entrees are on the pricy side, but apps are fair...and they always have a dj spinning mellow grooves.

The food at Clinton's sucks?
No, no, my friend. The entrees, you may be able to argue with me about. But I will put their fresh baked goods up against anybody, including Nancy Silverton. All baked on the premises too, I believe. Danishes, cornbread, muffins, fruit pies, cream pies, all fantastic.
Clifton's, that is. Excuse me.
Founded by Clifford Clinton, so, Clifton.
Another Little Tokyo noodle place (open til 3am, except Sundays when they're open til midnight) is Koraku.
The food's good (not great), but it's not too expensive, service is good and there's a pretty robust menu ranging from noodles, rice, to other entrees.
I gotta agree with Mr. Mercer about Clifton's, their oh so buttery cheese bread will rock you. And the amazing ambiance of course (Disney's Frontierland comes to mind) is not to be missed. But everything else does leave a bit to be desired. And a bit of a stretch on the "late night," but hey, I'm all for all nighters too. But then we're just opening a bigger door, aren't we?
Chinatown anyone? Its a bit pricier, but SO damn tasty, Full House is open till 2:45am and serves up a huge range of Chinese dishes.
Another thought... What constitutes late night? I noticed people put Daikokuya, but that closes before the bars let out. I guess, late night just means past 9pm perhaps, as most (oh, let's just call them WEAK) restaurants close before then?
El Taurino should be on this list too, closing at 2AM daily, and not too far from downtown (Hoover and Olympic). But maybe another stretch in terms of distance from "proper" downtown.
And also, Pete's on Main and 4th. They serve food and drinks till 1:30AM (or so), a bit pricier but a bit classier too. Killer dessert (can't say enough about the bread pudding) and high high quality bar food (cheddar and bacon fries with REAL pieces of applewood bacon and REAL melted cheeses) as well as a full menu.
Love the PCD for late night dining! There are few things better than a steak and lobster dinner with a drrrty martini at 2:30am ;) Night owls unite!
