Mayor Tony, Wife, Separate

mayor tony and the ring he wont be wearing much longer We were just saying that because of the Paris Hilton drama with her calling out to her mommy and the tears and the live televised trip to the courthouse, that today anyone could announce anything else and no one would care or notice.

And just then we hear that Mayor Tony announced that he and his wife of 20 years are separating.

"Each of us loves our children more than anything in the world, and we are committed to working together for their benefit," [Antionio] Villaraigosa said in a statement. "I ask that the media and the public respect our privacy through this painful period of transition."

A spokesman said that Villaraigosa was taking the weekend off but that he would be temporarily moving out of Getty House, the mayor's official residence in Windsor Square, next week. - LA Times

As you know, Mayor Tony was born Antonio Ramon Villar but merged his last name with his wife's who was born Corina Raigosa, so it will be interesting to see if he goes back to being Tony Villa.

Update: Emmanuelle Richard writes in to remind us that Luke Ford called this back in January.

The mayor and his wife Corina haven't been seen together in public in about ten months (since the president of Mexico, Vicente Fox, visited in May 2006). Villaraigosa no longer wears his wedding band (not since the first week of September 2006). His wife does not live with him in the mayor's mansion (I don't think she's ever lived there with him).
Nice job, Luke!

I'm ignt on this part, so please fill me in. Is the housing and upkeep donated or are city taxes helping out with the residence? If so, shouldn't the non-elected parties move out as opposed to the elected official?

Do you think he would have been elected if he were divorced?

The Getty House is a non-profit with $0 money coming from taxpayers.

I do think that both Hahn and Riordan are previous Mayor's have had marriage trouble, along with Newsom in SF and Guiliani in NY. We should let the family figure this out and not trouble ourselves with his personal life. but give him hell if you disagree with his policies.

The Getty House is the official residence and owned by the City. It's maintenance and other expenses are supported by the Getty Foundation. Bradley lived there, but both Riordan and Hahn maintained their private homes and only used the Getty House for ceremonial occasions, entertaining, fund raising (for non-profits), and retreats from City Hall.

This disgraceful, so-called "leader" of our city, scooting around the country on tax dollars, states that it is "inappropriate" to question whether he had affairs WHILE IN OFFICE? I don't care what he does with the tramps, but don't do it to Los Angeles. Oh, the shame...
