LAist Asks: The Way We Dress for the Philharmonic

Compare the way people dress at the LA Phil (not including Hollywood Bowl) to the New York Philharmonic and you'll find some New Yorkers shocked at our fine evening wear for classical music. That is to say, we prefer our California lackadaisical manner of dress. Go to the LA Phil and you'll see the occasional couple with style, but mostly you'll see lots in jeans and other street-wear. It seems Casual Fridays at the Phil is a seven-day a week affair. One seasoned ticket holder told me that the point is to just arrive on time and not to worry about it (though, the opera crowd does seem to dress up more in general).

Downtown's newest hotspot, The Edison, has higher standards of dress code ("committed to the return of style"). Their bare minimum is nice jeans (not torn, not baggy) with a button up shirt.

Should the LA Phil change their policy or keep it as is?
