no, haven't heard Channels - would like to hear it. I'm chastising Dischord because I think they can do better than they have been, I think they will shape up, it's just that stuff like Antelope is a bit disheartening. Thanks for the heads-up.

Have you heard Channels? J Robbins is still bringin' it. (I heart him.) But yes, new blood is good for any label.

I agree with you on the Evans in terms of MacKaye as a musician, but I don't think he's brought that attitude to the label. Also, to be fair, he's not the only entity in control at the label, it's not like Dischord=MacKaye. I think putting Antelope out there is a poor decision based on a scene that you call "incestuous," and in the sentence following the one where you claim the catalog is diverse, you say the label's "past major players....have remarkably different sounds" - the key word to emphasize is "past".

I don't know, I think Dischord has now (and has always had) a fairly diverse catalog. Even the label's past major players - Jawbox, Nation of Ulysses (and later the Make-Up), Fugazi - all have remarkably different sounds. And yes, the member lineups can be a tad incestuous, but I wouldn't say the culture is absolutely inbred. Have a listen to the past few Evens records. They're really a testament to MacKaye's ability to successfully switch gears.
