Most would think that a five-year-run on a tv series on a major network would be a huge success. Five years would especially seem successful for a show that no one ever talked about, cared about, or even noticed. One that got walloped when put up against the likes of American Idol, and had to be moved to four different time slots.
Indeed, one might think that the fact that the George Lopez show actually was on the air longer than the far more popular and controversial The Apprentice, should be reason enough for Lopez to be understanding when ABC announced that the show would no longer be picked up, but no, he's pissed.
Using colorful language that cannot be printed in a family newspaper, Lopez scoffed at another ABC pickup: "Caveman," about two brothers and one best friend, described as sophisticated cave dudes living in modern-day Atlanta, who will continually find themselves at odds with contemporary society.Wikipedia tells us (and therefore it must be true) that the George Lopez show was the second-longest running US sitcom starring Latino leads, only behind I Love Lucy."I get kicked out for a … caveman and shows that I outperformed because I'm not owned by [ABC Television Studios]. So a Chicano can't be on TV, but a caveman can?" Lopez said. "And a Chicano with an audience already? You know when you get in this that shows do not last forever, but this was an important show, and to go unceremoniously like this hurts. One hundred seventy people lost their jobs." - LA Times
If Lopez really thinks that his show was "important", perhaps he can hustle it over to NBC/Universal who own Telemundo and are obviously more in tune with his built-in audience. And since NBC is dead last in the ratings, perhaps they might take a look at a demographic that they tend to ignore.

I tried watching it once. ONCE.
His show shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence with I Love Lucy.
Take your money, shut up, and leave! This is Hollywood, baby!
oh man, sux ballzognas. g. lo show was hilarious. and william, go back to your swingers script re-write at house of pies baby. lolce.
I don't get it but wouldn't it be better for a re-write if I were at the Dresden? Or, if we're going for the new chic thing, we could do Electric Lotus.
I am a little put off by his comments not written on this post. TV is now "whiter" because his show is off the air.
Puhleeze! The show was about a latino family, living in a big house in the suburbs, whose kids went to snooty private schools, and whose main characters were middle to upper management types.
The only color on the show came from the stereotypical speaking cousin, latin lothario father-in-law, and "so you think your better than me" alchoholic grandmother.
In many ways the show did portray Latinos as we are, upwardly mobile, living the American dream...which is what our parents wanted for us, but it isn't about being brown, its about being human.
Now he's playing the ethnic card.
Had he wanted his show to be "brown", as he claims his show was, it would have been even more real about our latin experience.
The struggle to pass on a culture that the this generation itself can't remember, except when it comes time to over drink (or riot) for Cinco de Mayo, altar making for Day of the Dead and honoring the Mother of God on her feast day (Virgin of Guadalupe). The passing on of a faith that is no longer well tended to. Getting our kids into college against all hope with rising tuition costs and not so very good public education. The real costs to families and communities with high gang activity. And so on...
But nope, his show (those episodes I actually saw) rarely came near these topics.
And we are supposed to believe that TV is now whiter...
So George, quitcherbellyaching! You had a good run, you are a funny man, be happy that you had five years not deserving a wife who looks like Constance Marie!
I love George Lopez. He's fuckin funny.
But my friend is also one of the editor's of that new Caveman show that's coming out.
So I'm torn. Maybe I'll get an interview with the editor...
I never really watched the show, but his tv wife was pretty fly i think, and that should count for something right?
Shows get cancelled all the time and lots of people walk away jobless because of that. What makes his show so special? He should be thankful those 170 people actually had a job to go to for 5 seasons! That's one hell of a run for a show if you ask me.
For 5 years I have been watching this show, and for 5 years I have been laughing, and it's all thanks to George Lopez. The one show that I actually liked and ABC had to go and cancel it. What the hell is wrong with these people? I don't give a damn what anybody says, this show was worth it, and I'm glad it lasted as long as it did. George Lopez is one hell of a funny guy and he atleast deserves one last season for the series finale. He atleast deserved that, in return for making ABC millions of dollars every year. I wish the best of luck to George, and to say yeah TV is becoming a lil bit whiter again.
I love George Lopez and you don't have to be latin to understand his jokes. They really are funny.I don't blame George for getting upset because all our lives we latinos get noticed and as soon as were there some hot shot white person takes it away.Well I've enjoyed watching his shows and hopefully someone picks it up,so I can switch to them, bye.
george lopez is the best thing that ever happed to t.v so ftp who cancelled the show. George I think you are the best ever , Never let them see you cry and never be sad because you did more for la raza by your example than anyone i know.
