LAst Night's Action: Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer
Marlins 6, Dodgers 5 - When the Dodgers return to Chavez Ravine on Friday they'll be exposed to smoke, haze, and bad condition caused by nearby fires -- just like they're experiencing in Florida. The Marlins are hosting Los Angeles and are suffering from similar early summer blazes near the stadium. Some observed that the conditions are like a fog in San Francisco, but worsened by dry throats and stinging eyes. On Tuesday night the Dodgers watched a 4-1 lead go up in smoke by allowing two unearned runs and a walkoff RBI single in the bottom of the ninth by Miguel Cabrera. With all due respect to Bachelor Bob, we think it's pretty cool that Florida put in pitcher Dontrelle Willis as a pinch hitter, even though he hit a sac bunt into a forceout.
Indians 5, Angels 1 - Anaheim would like to catch fire in their batting order. The Angels were held to three hits against Cleveland as Cliff Lee hurled a complete game. He did bonk Mike Napoli, whose double was Anaheim's only extra base hit. The Associated Press reported that brush fires were also visible from The Big A.
