Northridge's Das Bauhaus

das2bahaus.jpg

There's a waiting list to live in this artist compound/apartment complex that sits a block and a half from California State University - Northridge. Let's take a look inside Das 2 Bauhaus

In some Valley neighborhoods, this apartment complex facade would totally freak out homeowners. That fence didn't really open like it should have and we aren't too sure what is going on with it anyway. Though, it definitely keeps dog walkers curious when they pass by.

Imagine these as your mailboxes. Apparently, those TVs used to work and those clocks are stuck in a wall of shredded newspaper (we think... it was weird night, details are fuzzy).

This statue was found in a concrete like dog run with not much else other than some utility meters.

Speaking of statues, there is a weird Chinese immigrant thing going on here. This is not just an artist compound, it is friends with the people of China.

The most important thing about Das 2 Bahaus in our opinion is the sense of community. The owner knocked out a wall to one of the first floor apartments and made that the community kitchen and space. It is a common scene for all the neighbors to gather and drink wine and eat cheese as any art opening does well. The table where all that wine sits is a baby grand piano.

The courtyard has a stage.

Murals line the hallways all over. This has to be the best one. Don't fuck with her baby.

Just off to the side of the community kitchen, a boa constrictor snake lives in here behind an American flag.
