Lakers 95, Suns 89 - After getting smacked around in the first two games of the series, the Lakers were looking up at a 17 point Phoenix lead in game three. Then something snapped. Kobe went on a 45 point rampage and -- surprise! -- Kwame Brown had 19. Lamar Odom had 18, but more important were his 16 rebounds (6 on the offensive glass). Los Angeles finally has the spark of hope that sometimes sets teams ablaze, but keep in mind they're playing the Suns (appropriately named in this fire metaphor).
Giants 5, Dodgers 4 - Words we couldn't have imagined a couple weeks ago: "The Dodgers ran into the buzzsaw that is San Francisco." Seriously, weren't the Dodgers just the best team in baseball with the Giants only marginally better than the Nationals? Hadn't Los Angeles just swept the Giants in San Francisco, won 8 straight against their arch-rival and 12 of 13 dating back to last season? Throw those stats out with your Dodger Dog wrapper. The Giants took the three game series in Chavez Ravine and have won eight straight games to pull ahead of LA in the NL West. Not very enjoyable for the 56,000 fans in attendance (tied for largest sellout in regular season history at Dodger Stadium) who also watched three batters from the Boys in Blue get plunked by pitches.
Angels 11, Devil Rays 3 - After Anaheim jumped out to a five run lead in the first inning, Bartolo Colon could have taken it easy. At least he looked a little relaxed, striking out 11 batters to just one walk in seven innings of work. Vladimir Guerrero went yard and both Gary Matthews Jr. and Shea Hillenbrand had three hits. The only starter without a hit was third baseman Brandon Wood, who went 0-4 in his first career major league game.
