I love Alegria for their drinks as much as for their food - they don't serve alcohol (byob) - but their aguas frescas and iced cafe de la olla are reason enough for a trip.

L.A. has many good Mexican restaurants, but Alegria is worth a visit because of its interpretation on dishes is very creative. I don't often visit here, but I fondly remember going to Alegria's opening day back in 1995. I was a guest of the priest who performed the opening blessing rite that day. The opening celebration, and food, was unforgettable.

Alegria on Sunset is one of my favorite Mexican joints in LA. The Carnitas there are some of the best in town! I think the Mole there is pretty great, but it has nothing on the mole at La Guelaguetza (the one on Palms).
