Angels 8, Mariners 4 - Virginia Tech means a lot to Joe Saunders. His uncle went there. His dad went there. His mom went there. He went there. Drafted by Anaheim in 2002, he is the only Hokie alum in pro baseball. Under the circumstances, Commissioner Bud Selig allowed him to wear his college cap for Friday's game. In his first start since the tragedy at his alma mater he pitched six scoreless innings. His team gave him plenty of support: offensive, defensive, and emotional. Some of that support took the form of 14 hits. Three each came from Vladimir Guerrero and Casey Kotchman, who also equaled each other with two runs and one RBI.
Dodgers 10, Pirates 2 - This is why, this is why, this is why LA's hot; the pitcher went 2-3 at the plate with a two run double. Randy Wolf's other hit was also a double, but he was the only starter not to score. He's probably not loosing any sleep over it, because he only allowed one Pittsburgh player to score over six innings. He had ten strikeouts overall and struck out the side in his final inning of work. The team has won 8 of their last 10 and leads the league with a 12-5 record. Now if only they could keep a lower profile on Tommy Lasorda.
Elsewhere - Minor league baseball is awesome.
