On Moorpark Street: The Coffee Fix

The Coffee Fix, an indie coffeehouse in Studio City

Ventura Boulevard tends to get all the buzz when talking up the Valley. Boutiques, restaurant after restaurant, salons, Starbucks with TV celebrities, etc. But what about the main street just north of Ventura - Moorpark Street?

You can easily miss The Coffee Fix with it's anonymous facade on the inner southwest corner at Moorpark and Whitsett in Studio City. Directly across the street is the modern looking and newish Studio City library which dominates this intersection.

Here in Van Nuys once pointed out that there are 8 billion Starbucks in Sherman Oaks and Studio City - one for every mile along Ventura (okay, so that is like 6 total). Along with that comes overpriced WiFi. The Coffee Fix's WiFi is free and dependable, complete with outlets to plug into (though, we find that sometimes they do block them when energy costs are going through the roof).

We can't say the Coffee Fix has cheaper coffee or food, but it's made with more care and more originality. The fruit smoothies, mixed with a green tea base (and no dairy), actually taste like fruit and not a sugar pop. They also serve scrambled eggs, crepes, salads and sandwiches. As simple as it is, we're a sucker for the Peanut Butter, Banana & Honey sandwich.

Closing at 9p.m. 7 days a week, we wish they could stay open later in to the night. They open at 7 a.m. during the week and at 8 a.m. on Saturdays, 9 a.m. on Sundays.

For another Valley indie coffehouse, see Lulu's Beehive, which is around the corner and down Ventura.

Their bagels and croissants are really good too. And unlike Starbucks or Coffee Bean, they'll toast it and put the cream cheese on for you, and toss on tomatoes or onions or whatever you like. Tasty tasty.

last time i was at coffee fix all the outlets were covered. when i asked i was told it was for "safety" reasons. safety is important to me but so is power -- so, i stopped going there. perhaps its time to visit again. thanks for the reminder zach.

Currently, the outlets are back for use. There used to be a power strip attached to one outlet where everyone would plug in. I suspect that blew their energy bill through the roof. But I am glad to see a few outlets available.

The outlet by the window has the three prongs while the side wall just has two.
