Let the Drunken Art Appreciation Begin

The Spring Art Walk in the Brewery downtown is upon us once again. This weekend is a time for touring this downtown neighborhood & not simply looking at the art in the quiet calm of a gallery, but looking at art in the artist's actual lofts. Cool, no?

Yet every time we attend this event, or hear someone talk of attending this event, or listen to a friend tell another friend about it after the fact, the same misunderstanding crops up: some people who attend this event think that because it is in the Brewery (neighborhood), the art appreciation will be taking place in a working brewery (place that makes beer & might also serve it to patrons). Many who make the trek downtown are often bummed to learn that the Brewery is not, in fact, a bar. This is not a drink all you can drink and then look at art fest. This is really, truly, about the art. Art made by artists living in buildings that once housed breweries. Get it?

So, consider youself informed and go anyway. This is a rare opportunity to meet artists of all kinds where they live and create their works. The Brewery is the world's largest artist's colony still in existence and is home to artists of every stripe: photographers, painters, sculptors, architects, cinemetographers, musicians, animators, clothing designers. Where else can you see this kind of work from so many different artists, all in once place? If you decide to make the trip (and you should, you really should) here are a few things you need to know:

-- Bring cash for any artwork you wish to purchase
-- Plan on walking a lot - the Brewery Artist's Colony comprises 22 buildings (yes, 22)
-- Food vendors will be on site - we're guessing they're the same food vendors that seem to crop up everywhere
-- Sunny skies (well, partially) are predicted for the weekend so don't let today's rain deter you
-- Free admission & free parking
-- When/Where: April 21 & 22nd from 11am-6pm in downtown's Brewery
