Thumbs Up for Seven Grand

Seven Grand, a bar, in Downtown LA

DJs spinning old-time jazz, 200 choices of whiskey, and a dark mellow vibe with a twist of a thirty something crowd is making the old Clifton's Silver Spoon location another reason downtown nightlife is coming abuzz. Seven Grand, named after its nearest intersection, just opened this month and it feels as if it has been here for ages.

Compared to the generalized and typically terse doormen, cocktail waitresses and bartenders of Hollywood, Grand's staff is gregarious. Maybe it is the nature of a fresh start, but as brand goes, this works.

Owner, Cedd Moses, already runs two downtown spots of quality, The Broadway Bar and The Golden Gopher. "Progress is always slow, so seeing something cool and new actually open [in Downtown] is a very welcome thing," Eric Richardson of BlogDowntown wrote last week on his website.
