Tony Bennett Stung by the Curse of Sanjaya?

beware the curse of sanjaya As AI contestants drop off one-by-one the show thanks to the Sanjaya Effect, senior citizen crooner Tony Bennett has become the latest casualty and it makes us wonder if it might have something to do with Mr. Malakar.

Bennett has lived 80 full, rich years, he even served in the military. But days after "working with" Sanjaya, he became too ill to perform, and in fact will not return to the American Idol stage as planned for tonight's show.

Access Hollywood has the details:

According to a spokesperson for the star, he has a cold.

With just hours left until tonight's live show, producers from "American Idol" are working hard to find a stand in. A source close to the show told Access Hollywood they are trying to get Canadian singer Michael Buble to fill in.

. A cold? Michael Buble? In all of Hollywood THE ONLY PERSON THE MOST POPULAR TV SHOW OF ALL TIME CAN GET TO REPLACE TONY BENNET IS MICHAEL WTF BUBLE?

WTF as in Who the Fuck.

Thanks, Sanjaya... for nothing!

Hey,watch it! Michael Buble' is THE best young singer of standards that there is! I've seen him live and he is tremendously talented.I'm sure Tony Bennet would approve the choice of replacement!

You obviously are very ignorant and out of touch with what is happening in the music biz. Michael Buble has been hot for over 2 years. He's the closest thing you'll get to a young crooner these days.

I'd have to say, being addicted to American Idol and not knowing who Michael Buble is; somewhat of a sign..........

Hey, go spend $20 bucks buy Michael CD, just pick one, they are ALL superb! and you'll hear the freshest, most talented singer to come around in ages, HE WILL BE THE NEW TONY BENNETT in the years to come...Till then...don't make comments till you know what your talking about!P.S.Michael you were great last night, as always!

wtf...as in what the ....! you need to get educated, MB rocks he is right at the front of standard music and his live show is amazing. obviously you have been watching to much American Sanjaya, oops sorry I meant Idol.

Are you people all 80 years old?!?! I dont know one person who owns a Buble CD. And his performance last night wasnt stellar, he may have even been drunk.

I'm 20, and I've been listening to Buble for about 4 years now. I agree he's the closest thing we have to a Bennett or Sinatra, but he also isn't very popular with the mainstream media because he does sing standards. My girlfriend and I have seen him a number of times, and Michael and Tony Bennett are very good friends ever since Buble did some songs on Bennett's "Duets" album. PS I know Michael Buble is nowhere close to a house hold name, but if you're writing about music you should broaden your horizons....

Uh, Mich are you 20 years old ? You are so naive about the Crooner type of singing. M.B.has a huge fanbase, that cuts across every demographic line. It's irritating when LAist posts comments like Staci's since she is so unaware of this genre.Stick to the type of music you are familiar with please!

For anyone who thought Buble was drunk or high the other night. 1. That would be dumb, singing before 30,000,000 or so folks. 2. It would also be dumb to sing without your normal band and with no or almost no rehearsal. But, except for the piano, that's what he was doing. Why? See number 1. 30,000,000 reasons. So, he could have acted serious and been off a little or he could joke around and make that appear to be the reason he was off a little. I say the latter. He played around to cover the lack of rehearsal knowing his song wasn't going to be spot on anyway.

Hahah for those of u commenting buble was drunk.. well i dunno probably he wasn`t given his best performance or whatever.. i`m one of his fans I love his deep, sultry voice... but wasnt really convinced about his perfomance in the idol last nite.. probably he`s pissed to be put as the spare tire or someting .. :D lol.. and the comment about antonella barba was just... :D :D jeez i dunno :D :D ..

Michael Buble is the best! He was kind enough to sit in for Tony Bennett at the last minute. In my opinion he was the only decent choice that could fill in for Bennett. Maybe the guy had several gigs nights before. Buble and the band probably did not have time to rehearse a tune with him. Considering the time/circumstances and all his performance was pretty good. Good grief, please cut the guy some slack. We should all say 'THANK YOU, MICHAEL!
