LAist will cut to the chase and do in less than a minute what American Idol took 30 minutes to do tonight: Rocker chick Gina Glocksen is out and Sanjaya Malakar just took another step toward the finals.

The nine finalists were split into three groups:
>> Group 1: Blake Lewis, Chris Richardson and Sanjaya Malakar
>> Group 2: Haley Scarnato, Gina Glocksen and Phil Stacey.
>> Group 3: Melinda Doolittle, LaKisha Jones and Jordin Sparks.
Of course, Group 3 held the top three vote getters. Sanjaya and company were the middle tier. So then it came down to Gina and Haley because Phil was sent to safety. And, after the break, Gina was eliminated from the competition. She really didn't deserve to go, but it seems that America voters liked Haley's legs better than Gina's tongue piercing.
And the night's entertainment came from neo-crooner Michael Bublé, who subbed for Tony Bennett (down with the flu). But what was up with his performance? His vocals were just OK, and he was trying way too hard to be a Rat Packer. Sorry, but it didn't work for us, dawg.

Buble' was amazing and showed the Idols how to sing a Standard the right way. He's not trying to be a Rat Pack singer,He IS a Rat Pack singer.If you don't understand the crooners,stick to commenting on the kind of music you do know about,please!

That was my first time ever hearing Bublé in part because I didn't care how good he was I never could get past his ridiculous stage surname. Booblay?
I definitely liked his ease and presence on stage but I agree his singing wasn't all that and he totally blew it with that lame joke to Ryan about continuing to vote for Antonella. As a singer I give him a 7, as a comic I give him a 2.
And babs... the rat pack is closed and not accepting any new members. Ever.
Sanjaya is making a total joke out of the American Idol process. You have to think that sometime soon reality needs to kick in. If he were to win it all, the show would essentially be over. This type of thing would happen next year and the next year...

Being a Canadian, I cannot vote for the American Idol but I feel the show has really gone downhill with Sanjaya. It was entertaining to watch talented people vie for the best but week after week Sanjaya does not go out. Several Canadians are just turning the channel as he is making a mockery of American Idol. What a shame as it used to be a great show.
Buble' was a last minute replacement for an ailing Bennet.He didn't rehearse his performance all week,OK?
I saw him at The Greek and also at The Wiltern taping his PBS show and he was awesome.I own almost every recording of Frank,Dean,Sammy,Bobby,Dinah,Ella and so on...Michael Buble' is a godsend to fans of Swinging music!
Once again a much better singer was let go while
Sanjaya stays! He sucks soooo bad! I for one am getting tired of it....If this is the way it will continue I will no longer watch the show, which sucks because I have been a big fan since it started.
