LAist has a pair of tickets for the April 18th complete showing of the opera, Tristan & Isolde at the Walt Disney Concert Hall featuring the LA Phil, Peter Sellers and video artist Bill Viola. This is no regular opera, this something else: "Tristan und Isolde is a tale of a love so overwhelming and intense it transcends mortal bounds. This project represents an exciting opportunity to collaborate with fellow artists Peter Sellars and Esa-Pekka Salonen, to explore and draw fresh inspiration from both the story and the great creative work of Richard Wagner, and to re-tell this medieval myth of timeless significance and universal relevance," Bill Viola says.
Maybe you are familiar with Viola because he had an exhibit at the Getty a few years ago; maybe you are not. In any case, his video art is quite amazing.
This is a long opera and begins at 6:00 p.m. on April 18th with an optional Upbeat Live discussion at 5:00 p.m. Nevertheless, it is going to be amazing and anyone who likes performance art, opera and classical music will love this. Other dates for the project are April 12th - 14th (a three night affairs with one act per night starting at 8 p.m.) and another complete showing on April 24th at 6:00 p.m.
To enter to win, leave a comment with your name, e-mail (not published) and who your favorite classical composer is. Deadline is 12:00 a.m. Wednesday (that's tomorrow night!).
