FDA Finds Plastic in Pet Food, Dry Food Recalled

Pet%20Food%20Recall.jpgA plastics chemical called melamine - not rat poison - was found on wheat gluten in recently recalled pet food, according to the FDA's latest report. Now that rat poison has been eliminated as the cause of over 2,400 pet deaths, more foods must be tested for melamine. The FDA has promised the public they will announce the addition of any foods to the recall list if it is warranted. Concern is growing among pet owners as the FDA is currently testing foods at several companies, but won't disclose which brands are under review.

After the FDA announced their findings today, Hill's Pet Nutrition voluntarily recalled it's Prescription Diet m/d Feline Dry Food because it contains wheat gluten. Why is this new? It is the first DRY food added to the long recall list. Cat owners, please take note.

Several Los Angeles residents and LAist readers have been affected by this and have lost their beloved pets. We will continue to cover this story to keep residents up to date.

i've noticed it's not really a big news item but it seems as tho' the company that did the wet food recall is offering to pay for vet bills if their food was the culprit. . .
