LAst Night's Action: March Into History

Kobe is bending over backwards to take your attention away from the NCAA.Lakers 121, Grizzlies 119 - It's March Madness, but the most impressive hoops action keeps coming from a guy who never played a minute of college ball. Kobe had 60 points against Memphis, but it wasn't just his one game point total that generated buzz. This is the third game in a row he has scored at least 50, a feat only matched by Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, Elgin Baylor. Chamberlain actually did it seven times in a row, and is the only player ahead of Kobe on the single game point list (100 to 81). Kobe won't play second fiddle to anybody, though. Along with a new healthy lineup, he's brought his team back from a horrible slump to win three in a row and strengthen their standing in the playoff race.

Bruins 64, Panthers 55 - While Kobe was writing his name in the record books, Angelinos were tuning into another game with more critical implications. With great story lines (the opposing coaches are best friends) and bracket busting possibilities, the game was interesting but UCLA never lost the lead. All American Arron Afflalo led the game with 17 points, 10 of which came from the charity stripe. The Bruins will next face Kansas in the Elite Eight.

Coyotes 2, Ducks 1 - Phoenix shut out Anaheim for 57 minutes, giving away a goal that made things interesting but in the end only cost them the shutout. The Ducks are almost assured a playoff spot, though the Sharks are nipping at their heels for first in the Pacific at just two points behind.

Elsewhere - This song is probably stuck in your head ... Another great coach in trouble. At least it's not Tommy ... USC lost this popularity contest, and seeks revenge tomorrow.
