At the LA Times building this morning, we were invited to speak to a group of arts organizations on Web 2.0, which, of course, includes blogging (this was not a Times sponsored event, rather they gave the use of their community room). It was fun and dandy and lots of people were still getting accustomed to the world of blogging.

However, we found it funny and odd that internet access in the building was hard to come by -- WiFi or hard wired. In an a major media institution such as here in Los Angeles, having internet readily available is like breathing air. Come on, even Van Nuys City Hall has WiFi. The bums at Pershing Square have it too! Nevertheless, things happen, and the paper pressmen won this time.

So our grand plan of live blogging for an audience interested in learning how to blog never came to fruition. It would have been fun though. The Times worked hard to fix the internet problem, but to no avail. No worries. During a speaker before us, we quickly made a power point entitled: "The Internet Didn’t Work so I made a PowerPoint while Terence was speaking."

It brought on good laughs and everyone still learned. LAist looks forward to all the new art organization blogs around town.

It is good to know that the Times can blog. If you have not already, check out The Bottleneck Blog and The Homicide report. Those two metro blogs obsess over their topics and do it well.
