Barbara Boxer Pwns Goofy Old Man as Al Gore Smiles

It's been shocking to watch the GOP meltdown before our very eyes. Just this week we've seen our Governor fight with Rush Limbaugh, and today we saw Barbara Boxer beat down the Republican Senator from Oklahoma, in a beautifully sweet way, we must add.

Is Sen. Inhofe all the Republicans have in this super weird debate over Global Warming? What, no Zell Miller? We never thought we'd see a day when the upper class of the GOP, those who went to expensive schools and send their children to even more expensive schools would look at science and turn its back on it simply because it didn't fit into their party's political agenda.

Fascinating how so many of these are Right-to-Lifers who seem to care so deeply what goes on in a woman's womb, but don't seem to give one flying fuck about what happens to the environment that those unborn children will try to live in.

Is everyone dumb as a box of dirt over there, or was it always that way?

Meanwhile the Dems should feel rotten that they've been getting their ass beaten by retards all these years.

I couldn't have said it better.

Um, also, when is Bush going to get impeached? Seriously.

There is no meaningful correlation between CO2 levels and Earth's temperature over this [geologic] time frame. In fact, when CO2 levels were over ten times higher than they are now, about 450 million years ago, the planet was in the depths of the absolute coldest period in the last half billion years. On the basis of this evidence, how could anyone still believe that the recent relatively small increase in CO2 levels would be the major cause of the past century's modest warming? The Antarctica has survived warm and cold events over millions of years. A meltdown is simply not a realistic scenario in the foreseeable future.

Concerning Gore's beliefs about worldwide warming, in addition to the cooling in the NW Atlantic, massive areas of cooling are found in the North and South Pacific Ocean; the whole of the Amazon Valley; the north coast of South America and the Caribbean; the eastern Mediterranean, Black Sea, Caucasus and Red Sea; New Zealand and even the Ganges Valley in India. Had the IPCC used the standard parameter for climate change (the 30 year average) and used an equal area projection, instead of the Mercator (which doubled the area of warming in Alaska, Siberia and the Antarctic Ocean) warming and cooling would have been almost in balance.

Please provide your source for your claim that the CO2 levels 450 million years ago were 10 times the current levels. The IPCC has stated that the current CO2 levels are higher than they have been in the past 160,000 years. How do you explain the relationship between CO2 concentration and temperature on figure 22.17 on page 9 of the document you reference? This does not square at all with your assertion.

As explained in the lecture notes the earth has gone through climate cycles in the past largely based on variation in the earth's orbit and tilt of the axis relative to the sun. This is the primary cause for prehistoric ice ages every 40,000 years. However, note that CO2 levels are currently about 15% higher than they have been in the last 160,000 years due to man's industrial impact on the atmosphere.

Astrophysicist Nir Shaviv and geologist Ján Veizer in "Celestrial Driver of Phanerozoic Climate?" (Geological Society of America Today 2003;13:4-10) and Veizer in "Celestial Climate Driver: A Perspective from Four Billion Years of the Carbon Cycle" (Geoscience Canada 2005;32:13-30) show that the variability in the Earth’s temperature over the past 500 million years correlates well with the intensity of cosmic rays hitting the planet when it passes in and out of the spiral arms of the Milky Way. They found that at one point atmospheric CO2 levels were 18 times higher than they are today, and they were 10 times higher when the planet was an "icehouse" during the Ordovician glacial period (450 million years ago).

And I am saying that there is NO one to one corolation between the Earth's overall temperature and CO2 levels because if there were the Earth's temperature right now would be MUCH higher than it is and all of this would be moot.

There is not ONE SINGLE SCIENTIFIC ARTICLE DISPUTING GLOBAL WARMING. It is ONLY in the popular press which can't seem to help but feel that for every story supporting one side, another story backing the supposed other side must be written, even if it is scientifically INCORRECT. Check your facts people. Global Warming is here! Hel-lo, I live in Northern Europe and I was wearing a sleeveless sun dress a few weeks ago at the beginning of MARCH because it was so warm and sunny!

uh.. this article was interesting, I just had to comment on the use of "pwn" in the headline. PLEASE, I implore you to not encourage the use of the crappy leetspeak. ugh.
