That little Riverside girl who cried and cried over Sanjaya on American Idol last night must have voted a bazillion times on the way home because America's favorite bad singer with no personality has made it through to American Idol's Top 10. (Yeah and you have no one to blame for that because you didn't vote and the folks over at votefortheworst.com did.) So after 30 million votes, Sanjaya stays and Stephanie Edwards is out.
Now Stephanie is a good singer -- she just had an off night with "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me." While Sanjaya had a better night on Tuesday, he's been terrible all season long.
But that's not the only part of the night's shocker. The other person in the bottom two was Chris Richardson, who's a good singer, too. Neither Stephanie or Chris deserved to be in the bottom two. What about Gina Glocksen? Phil Stacey? Haley Scarnato? Or heaven forbid, Sanjaya Malakar!
Well, we'll tune in next week to see if Sanjaya takes another step closer to the finals, pitting him against Melinda or LaKisha.

The only reason the writer of the article (and most White America) does not like Sanjaya it is because of Sanjaya's ethnic background. Face it, Americans are not ready to pick an Idol (even if he sounds better than the best professional singers out there) from the Indian, Chinese, Arab, etc.. ethnic backgrounds. I do not understand why you keep dashing out harassing words and criticism that at this kid. Hell he made it so far so he must be a good singer to many.

I think people are forgetting that Sanjaya Malakar is still a kid at heart and cruel comments from the media as well as the internet can be very painful for a teenager and sometimes carry into adulthood. So for the viewers out there regardless how terrible Sanjaya sounds to you if he is being voted to stay in the competion say what you will but be kind with your thoughts because kind words is a mark of refinement and I dont think Sanjaya deserves to be verbally abused with cruel words regardless of his ability to perform. I don't think America is being judgemental against Sanjaya being an Indian. The fact is that he just isn't good enough to be compared again people like LaKisha or Melinda. If you look at all the previous idols, America pretty much got spot on, with a few exceptions. The way this whole thing is going, everyone might even see Sanjaya in the finale; God forbid he win AI.
I like staphine, but unfortunately last two weeks she got remarks from all the three judges. Just one week is not deciding the fate. Sanjaya was OK in the first week and awefully bad in the following weeks. But last week he rocked. Sanjaya has a high potential for a professional singer. First of all he has the attitude. he has the style of taking all critics and media roundups with a broad smile. That's what I like about him the most. He got the voice, but still he is a kid with less experience. He will overcome this.
I agree with John. Sanjaya may not be the best singer in the competition, but he is a kid with feelings. For those of you that have gone out of your way to ridicule him and say very nasty things about him being indian or gay you ought to check yourself. What you're saying about him is probably your way of fighting your own inter demons. Leave the kid alone and let America vote and let Sanjaya enjoy his time in the spotlight..

i don't know how you or anyone could possibly say he has a voice. what have you been listening to? he makes me, my wife, my wife's family, her friends, just about everyone around us, cringe! we just can't stand his "singing"!
i can't even bear to look at the tv when he's on, folks. it's just that painful for me. i actually feel embarrassed for the guy. and when i do see him, he sorta reminds me of a young michael jackson -- minus the talent.
The reason Stephanie got voted out was because she was BORING, plain and simple. She didn't do enough to garner a fan base.
Although Sanjaya may not be the best singer, he is by far one of the most entertaining on the show. I thought he gave a great performance on Tuesday that basically was a "i don't care what any of you think - I'm just gonna go out and have fun!" and it worked!
Go Sanjaya - you know how to have fun out there and have my support for another week.

in response to Helen, obviously people can't state their opinions if they don't think that Sanjaya has enough talent (which is a fact, the boy is a bad cruise ship singer) but to say that he shouldn't be exposed to negative comments, well if that is the case, he shouldn't be trying to win a career in the entertainment business.
Personally I don't think anyone has a problem at all with him being the highest ranking Indian ever to be on the competition. It doesn't matter what race he is or sexuality, the case in point is that little girls like him and they are the ones who are unfortunately controlling the vote. I honestly think that the Indian community is also helping his campaign and that it might be their way to unite and prove a point after the horrible bullying of Shilpa Shetty on the UK's Celebrity Big Brother.
This is a TALENT competition not a race issue, not a gay issue.

It may surprise you to hear this, but people other than 12-year olds, desperate housewives, and gay people ARE voting for Sanjaya -- because we happen to like his voice. He has a lovely, moody, bluesy voice in a low register. He sings on key, and his tone is always rich.
What galls me is that people who have never listened to anything other than pop or rock or hip hop are spitting such vitriole against this young singer. There are more vocal styles in the world than are dreamt of in your philosophy.

Sanjaya is just a kid so where did all these hateful people come from? Every year of AI there has been a singer that should have been voted off the show early, but lasted. i am indian...so obviouslyy im not against sanjayas ethnicity...hes not good..hes alright..he doesnt really have talent for this show..maybe if he was singing karaoke at a bar..itd be alright..but not for american idol..as my mom says all the "teeny-boppers" are voting for him..and unfortunately people who deserve to still be on the show have been voted off...sanjayas voice doesnt sound as if it has matured yet..and its just not good enough for him to be the next "american idol"
I have no problem with Sanjaya being Indian. I don't care whether or not he's gay. I just think he's a mediocre singer and a boring performer. And as for the Sanjaya supporters who say he shouldn't be exposed to criticism, if he wants to have any sort of career in the entertainment industry, he's going to have to learn to deal with the haters. Actually, that seems to be the one thing Sanjaya can do well.

Stop turning everything into race. Point blank he has no talent. The poor thing humiliates himself every week in front of millions of people. Do him a favor and stop voting for him. When all this is over he will have to go back to reality.
I think that this whole season of American Idol doesn't even compare to the past ones. I think that most people will agree with me that each season, American Idol has improved as far as originality and ability in contestants go. This season, however, has not made it to the next level. In fact, I think it has spiraled dramatically downward. Sure, there are some talented singers in the group, but overall, they don't have the endearing qualities that lured us to watching American Idol in the first place.
As to Sanjaya, I don't think he is gay. I think he is still just very young, and the youthfull vibe he gives off lights up most people's gaydars. He appeals to the teenie-boppers of America (who do the majority of the voting anyway), to gay men, and to people who are attracted to his youthfull, non threatening sexuality (not to mention the hoards of people voting for him just to screw with American Idol). But lets face it, how many of you would still vote for Sanjaya, if you just heard him singing randomly, and didn't know who he was, or are able to see him? Next time he sings on American Idol, close your eyes and pretend it isn't him, then compare him to the other contestants. I think you will find that most of you are more attracted to him than his singing.
I mean, I understand why you would vote for him. Besides the above, he is the only attractive, and unique person left on the show. Even though I don't think he deserves to be on American Idol, I do admire the way he has been handling all of this very harsh critisism. And, had he a singing voice that could wow beyond a highschool talent show, I would be voting for him too. Afterall, he has proven he can handle the 'business side' of the entertainment industry.

I love Sanjaya,he's been my absolute favourite since his 1st audition.He is soooo cute.I know he's really not that good but,when the judges keep harpibg on him,he just takes it,and smiles.He sounds like such a nice kid ,he cried when his sis didn't make it!!!!! Have you noticed that the majority of people that are in support of Sanjaya haven't put in basic grammar? Says something about his audience (i.e. tweenage girls, like that girl that cried when he yelled, not sang, out "You Really Got Me"). Seriously, he can't sing, he isn't even that good-looking. He either whispers or yells out the song. I think he might be a good actor or comedian. Not a singer. Truth.

I think that Sanjaya is a very sexy man. He has a wonderful voice and I personally don't care what anyone else's opinion is. He is wonderful, and he is just a young kid trying to make it big. Why try and ruin his dreams and crush the poor guys hopes? He is the best.
