When Harry Met a New Hermione...

Hermione Don't Play That

Word is that 16-year-old Emma Watson, who's made her mark in Hollywood playing Harry Potter's galpal Hermione Granger, is sick of the role. She's balking at signing on for the last two Harry Potter movies. Matters probably didn't help much last week when a 20-something stalker approached Watson at school to chat about the films.

According to a Guardian article:

It seems to have been Grint [Ron Weasley] himself who sparked off the speculation about Watson's future. The News of the World yesterday quoted him as saying that Watson had drifted apart from him and Radcliffe in recent months, despite the trio having made five films together.

"Daniel and I are distant from her now," he was quoted as saying. "We don't text or talk to her when we are not filming. "Emma doesn't want to do it any more. She's tired of being known as, 'that girl from Harry Potter.'"

Maybe she can take a cue from co-star Daniel Radcliffe, who's drawing rave reviews in Equus. If you're sick of a role, Emma, think about doing something else in between films?

Now LAist is pretty sure that Warner Bros. won't let Watson get away that easily. We think she'll be on set for filming on Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince when production begins in a few months because WB knows that it might be a little difficult to recast this role. A new Hermione might not do as well as a Maxwell Caulfield and Michelle Pfeiffer did for Grease 2...or an Izabella Miko instead of Julie Stiles in Save the Last Dance 2...
