Pet owners across the country have been worried about a recent recall on a surprising number of both dog and cat foods. The reason for the recall? 10 animals died from kidney failure and unknown numbers have suffered from severe kidney illness after eating the affected food.
The initial recalled brands were announced early yesterday, but brands such as Eukanuba, Iams and Purina have added several of their own brands to the recall for added precaution.
How to know if your pet food is safe? First, all recalled foods are "wet" foods sold in cans or pouches. Switching to dry kibble should help avoid the recalled foods. Second, check out the links below and visit the extended links for detail on the specific foods that are part of the recall and have now been pulled from store shelves.

CAT AND DOG OWNERS, WARNING: my cat is acting very sick and is going to the vet today. she ate food last night on the recall list purchased at centinella pet supply in santa monica. my other cat ate it too, but has not been acting sick. hopefully he will not get sick, maybe it affects some animals more than others, or maybe he didn't eat enough of it. there is a very long list of brands affected by this recall, go to the menufoods.com/recall site or call their number. so far i have not found info. on what might be in the food to cause this, but i've read it is causing kidney failure in some pets. i am still waiting for menu foods to call me back with more info. centinella was not very knowledgable.

Take both your animals to the vet for bloodwork. It was too late for our cat by the time she was showing symptoms. We had to put her to sleep a week ago.
