A friend of ours got a parking ticket for parking in front of a fire hydrant. Okay, yeah, duh. Let us back up here.
There were two hydrants within about 50-feet of each other. One, looking fairly new with a brightly painted red curb. The second, the one he got ticketed for parking in front of, had no red curb (not even slightly faded) and looked like a hydrant that died in 1981.
We know, ignorance is no excuse. Parking in within 15-feet of any hydrant will earn you a merit badge in how to get a ticket. But we believe when the city sets a pattern, it should stick to it (especially if the citizens get fined for their bemusement of it). The pattern here would be painted red curbs in front of hydrants. What is the point of painting some and not others?
The city should paint them all or none at all. None of this wishy-washy crap.

Parking can be concerning, especially in front of a Fire Hydrant. But, every California driver should know that pesky/great state law that prohibits parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.

Oh c'mon. Its a hydrant. He deserves the ticket. It's not for him to decide that the hydrant needs a makeover. It's a fairly simple rule.
